I doubt it, it's more of a case of 'cover thy arse' rather than 'we think this will really work'. The worst offenders are the companies who don't give a F* and aren't really that invested in selling on PC, the devs who do need their stuff to sell on PC are often are the ones who don't use DRM.

If I was a game developer I would probably drop all of the DRMs. At the end of the day you are making your loyal customers angry and frustrated, while the pirates wait for 2 days for a crack that bypasses the DRM and they don't have any of the headaches that the legitimate buyers do.

When will they learn that DRM doesn't benefit them. To this day has there ever been an unbeatable DRM? As far as I know Anno 2070 is one of the few still causing issues to be cracked...but that's only because of the online content&instances. most cracking groups take such pleasure in the challenge that taking away DRM would probably be like punishment to them!

True! but there will always be Programs (such as photoshop, office, etc.)

There were actually 2 problems,the first was that ships were not being picked up so you couldn't make trade routes or complete certain missions,the second was the online content that no one really bothers with since it just adds unnecessary advantages for you in your game.
The first one was fixed by using the Anno2070 updater then applying the cracks after it's done updating and the second is still being worked on with a Hamachi server.
