Guild Wars 2

Do I need to sign an NDA to participate in a Guild Wars 2 Beta Event?

Yes. All participants are required to sign an NDA. All content in the Guild Wars 2 Beta Events is confidential. If you are participating in a Guild Wars 2 Beta Event, you should also not disclose that you are a participant.

What does NDA stand for and what does that mean for me?

NDA stands for Non-Disclosure Agreement. An NDA is a legal contract between ArenaNet and you that states all content in the Guild Wars 2 Beta Events is confidential. By signing the NDA, you agree to not disclose that you are a participant in a Guild Wars 2 Beta Event and to not disclose any information about the content. Breaking the NDA can lead to legal proceedings.

What happens if I talk to my friends or the public about being in a Beta Event or post screen shots to Facebook/my blog/my fansite?

By signing the NDA you are entering into a legally binding contract with ArenaNet. Any "leaking" of information, images, or your participation in a Beta Event will result in serious ramification, up to and including being barred from participating in future Beta Events with ArenaNet, account termination, and legal proceedings.

Why do I have to sign an NDA?

ArenaNet has a right to protect its intellectual property. You are entering into a game world that is not complete and that is still in the testing phase. Any information or images released at this stage may give an incorrect representation of the game or unveil confidential information that jeopardizes future development.

Really? I never saw a big ass sign saying NDA. Bit to serious for my liking. But thanks for making my friday anal Spartan.

The devs asked that beta users keep the info to themselves as they do not want to release that much info yet. No one is upset that you possibly got it, just dont flaunt that fact. Also you accepted the nda when you submitted yourself for possible selection to the beta, read those pages before just clicking agree ;)

Thanks Spartan i must say im really really scared that ArenaNet sues me for saying i got the Beta.

They won't sue you for that.

If you admit that you got into the beta and they find out (unlikely on these South African forums) worst cast scenario is they terminate your access.

If you had actually posted screenshots and secret information and that began circulating around the internet, then then they more than likely would have hunted the source down and sued you for every cent that you have.

Bump:

This is so sad. My friend got into the beta and has been downloading the game client since Tuesday morning 24/7.

His client download got stuck on 99% and crashed. Now it tells him a serious error has occurred and he needs to redownload it.

Is there anyone in Cape Town that either has a linespeed that can download a 11GB client in 24 hours, or that has it downloaded already that he can come pick it up from? He is offering R100.00

Unlikely, more like they would just issue a Cease and Desist, get the images/video removed and then revoke access. Suing someone in a foreign country is way too expensive.

@fridgevr

Got this from the GW2 twitter feed.

Reminder to all closed beta players:you're under NDA.Don't risk breaking the NDA, you could permanently lose access to all ArenaNet games.

On one hand i think breaking the NDA is bad, but on the other hand we get moarrr info ! So starved for new info about gw2!

I just think its funny that:

1 - we all wanted keys
2 - only few got, envy follows
3 - rest turns state police ;)

Just an observation :D

I honestly don't see the reason for NDA anymore on MMO/Gaming public betas. You might call this a closed beta but it is nothing like that at all. Random people get invited = it is an open beta. Slamming a nonsensical NDA on it wastes time.

Unless of course the NDA is there only to create more hype as the beta info is "leaked" and goes viral. It would not surprise me if the whole NDA thing is just that: another marketing tool.

I am not the only one that thinks this, many bloggers have made similar comments in the "closed" betas of other MMOs.

I agree, at this point especially after the press beta blow-out I see no point in having an NDA any more other than hype generation by media starving.

Not to mention that once you get public involved actually enforcing an NDA is almost impossible. With Press it's significantly easier to track down Bob from website X but now if some random footage pops up on the net it would be a mission to hunt down the person who leaked it.

Meh well i can see why they want the silly NDA.

Make of it what you want.

Cant really say much more. Dont want the mygaming Stasi to come take me from my home.
