Mass Effect 3 (an honest opinion)

In my honest opinion it sucked. I am now on the last mission (I think) so the ending everybody is ranting about has nothing to do with my comments as I am yet to get there. I have been relatively positive about this game and gave it every chance to impress me (34 hours already and counting)

Maybe if there was no ME2 it would have been better.

Here are my issues:-

1.) The graphics are exactly the same as ME2. Maybe cause it was made for the XBOX and PS3?
2.) Speaking of which, the game is a bad port (it just feels porty). Any game that uses spacebar for the majority of functions is a port in my opinion. We have a keybord guys....
3.) Lack of patches for the PC which could have modified some irratating issues like not being able to change back to the gun you had before picking up the new one midway in a mission....
4.) The storyline/plot is the same trend as ME2. Build up a team, choose between one or two of them and then go to war.

Imagine what this game could have been like if the developers of the Witcher was involved (CD Project).

The sooner they bring out the next gen consoles the better for us as games will then finally start to be made for better hardware....

I would give it a 90% on the Xbox and PS3, but on the PC honestly I would rate it a 75% as this is the experience (or frustration) I had.....

Hehe I can just imagine how much it will have sucked for you after the ending. :)

The graphics are very similar but I thought it was good.

Once I got used to using the spacebar for everything I thought it was a brilliant idea. Why need more buttons when one will suffice?

3.) Lack of patches for the PC which could have modified some irratating issues like not being able to change back to the gun you had before picking up the new one midway in a mission....
Got to agree with you there. I had quite a few bugs on my way to the ending. At one stage I couldn't get further in a mission because the game would crash every time I entered a certain room. Someone who had the same problem figured out that if you sent in your squad mates first then it will work. And it did!

4.) The storyline/plot is the same trend as ME2. Build up a team, choose between one or two of them and then go to war.
What more did you want? I loved Mass Effect 2. It's one of the best games I've ever played. Mass Effect 3, though not as good did a good thing by keeping the game very similar to Mass Effect 2.

Imagine what this game could have been like if the developers of the Witcher was involved (CD Project).
Hehe the reason for my post. I disliked the Witcher and wasn't able to finish it because I found it a chore to play. Mass Effect is perfect as it is. I am so glad that no other developers were involved.

That sucks that you found the game so frustrating. I found it such a joy to play. I wish there were more games like it out there.

And I wish it didn't end and that there were a fourth game.

Hi Solitude

Well I have played it for more than 30 hours so how bad can it be!

With regards to the Witcher comment I meant the graphics. The Witcher was an amazing game to watch and most of its issues have been rectified with the dozens of patches the lates being a 12 gig update out now!

Like I said, I probably just expected something a bit different. If only ME2 & 3 came out in the same year it would have been different.

After ME2 I have been eagerly awaiting the third installment. Maybe the expectations was a bit unfair...

I just finished it recently and agree with a few things - the graphics were quite kak and I came across a few bugs. The ending, blergh, it was okay, but really below the standards set by the entire storyline.

The spacebar and cover system got frustrating at times, because sometimes I'd spam it and it'd fail or I'd jump or just make a movement I really didn't want to. This usually happened when trying to get away from just about the only thing that'd cause me to die in the repetitive, average combat, those horrible insta-kill grenades.

Exactly

If I would try and get away from a monster then Shepard would dive into the closest wall and then if I press the buttons again he would roll accross and stick onto the next wall...... They should have made seperate buttons for going into cover and sprinting. It also looks (and feels) very stupid by first having to crouch into an obstacle before being able to jump over it.

I wish they would make the game for the PC foremost and then from there "downscale" or port it to the Xbox/PS3 almost like the Witcher.

The problem with ME3 is that they used the outdated console engine from the start so we were always doomed.

Don't see what the problem is...

I've been playing this game and loving every second of it... had to take a 2 week break from it because it does get repetitive and not being able to change my gear in a load out menu before a mission gets daunting... really dont like that elevator -.-

Also i love the way they set up relationships in this game..

*PS Never played ME2 or ME1... well i did but like 6 hours on each in total...

I thought ME2 was worse. But I didn't really know what the hell was going on till quite a way through the game. I preferred the upgrades and stuff like that in the 3rd.

Agree with the graphics, just the same as ME2 for me, but luckily ME2's graphics was pretty cool, but in that first mission the running animations is bad.
But I enjoyed the game up untill the last mission which was just... bleh.
So if I close my eyes to the ending I would say was a good game... Gameplay wise.

Let me rather put it this way.....

Metacritics experts rates it as follows:- (not the users)

PS3 & XBox - 83%
PC - 89%

Should it not be the other way around?

I would rather rate a PC game high in which effort was actually put into the PC version of the game........

For me, Mass Effect has always been around the story. As long as that was fine, the other elements came secondary. The graphics needed to be decent of course (which it was), but didn't have to be over the top.

The one button fits all does get a bit frustrating... causes me to die in a lot of situations because a lot of the times, it does the opposite of what is intended. Especially in the heat of a firefight.

As far as the "formula" being the same... build a team, choose one or two team members and go fight... I'm fine with that. That is what we got in ME1 and ME2 and is what I expected in ME3.

Look at Alan Wake as an example of a port done right. Extra content and improved graphics. L.A. Noire was not done right. The extra content was there for sure but the graphics was definately not optimised. BF3 is also pretty good.

I reall really hope Rockstar gets it right with the new GTA. I see you can preorder the Xbox/PS3 games only. Not sure if this is good or bad.

Bad in that they obviously are making the game upfront for consoles again and good that at least it seems they will take their time in porting it.

My experience has told me that normally when console and PC is release same date one will suffer. (except BF3 of course)
