Guild Wars 2

Going back a step and talking about pings etc.

When i was on my iSat 384 my pings were terrible for wow, lowest it ever went was 400ms without a tunneling service. Then i upgraded to a cybersmart 1mb and now i average about 230ms on a good night, 280 on a bad one. I can only handle 2 people playing wow on my connection at a time and then pings bounce between 280 and 320 ms for both of us. Both lines were routed straight to joburg then out to the world via the IS fibre backbone.
A mate in toti has a 4mb with Mweb and we all get around 200ms to 230ms ping with 4 of us playing wow at the same time on the same server. So ISP and bandwitdth do make a bit of a difference in my experience :P just adding my 2 cents :D

Awww ... I wanna play around with the Sylvari character creation :<

I'm kinda glad for this. My first char I want to create when the game finally releases is a Sylvari and I'd rather not play the content before then. Had it been in the upcoming beta I wouldn't have been able to resist playing a Sylvari.

I'm torn between Norn and Human for my first beta character, but definitely Guardian first, then ele. :)

My main is gonna be a charr engineer so im probably gonna try a Norn ranger for beta :D

"This is a public event, which means that you’re not bound by a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). So go ahead, feel free to take screenshots, shoot video, blog, tweet, write, or compose a rock opera to share your Guild Wars 2 experience with the world."

My poor hard drives, facebook, twitter and raptr accounts are gonna be spammed/updated every couple of minutes... people are gonna be hating on me :D

Yeah 384kbps is definitely to low for modern MMO's especially in high action situations like raids and pvp so you are bottlenecking on bandwidth. I did a few raids with a download meter open and watching the numbers, some points in the fight spiked to 80-100KB/s, which is more than 384 can handle, so you'll be hitting slowdowns.

So at 60kb/s max throughput on my wireless I am pretty screwed then for large group content. Good thing that I don't like that kind of thing anyways. (/rationalization off)

No no ... just the character creation. I want to toy around and see what's possible, because you can bet your salary I'm going to be spending many, many hours in the character creation.

Which reminds me, I'm still working on my Guild and my Main character's backstory :p

I'm doing this properly. :D

Funny thing is I'd like my character to be a descendant of one of my GW1 characters (would help explain the heritage items :)), so to share the same last name 'Lynhart'. The only issue is that this would force me to roll a human unless I can somehow rationalise a Sylvari being a descendant. :p

Maybe, just maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe, we can play in char creation and just not hit the final "Play" button.. Maaaaaaaaaybe.. :D

consider how the sylvari take their memories and everything they learn from the pale tree in the dream, then just cook up a back story that your character helped Ventari defend the tree...

you think of the rest :)

I actually thought that through a bit - so bear me out.

What I figured I'd do (if I decided to go the Sylvari as a main route), is create a back-story where some essence of my original main character was contained in the Sylvari tree's memories; or, that a decendant of my main character (I'm working on a family-tree, believe it or not) became good friends with a/the Sylvari, and as a result one of the new-born Sylvari took the name and effectively got adopted into the extended family.

Something along those lines anyways ;p

Hm, guess I can conjure up an elaborate story of my own to explain it. Gotta love imagination. :D

Also regarding the facebook thing they have going. My guess is the reveal will be... Dun dun duuun... The release date! :D
