SimCity 5's always-on internet requirement is "totally worth it"

As internet connections improve this is going to become more and more common. And honestly, i dont see the problem with it. My Internet is always on, hasn't been down for more than an hour in almost a year. Its the future, deal with it.

I don't mind that too much...I suppose that it could be a problem for people who have PCs and want to play games but don't have a stable internet connection. But conditions are improving.

Also, I CAN'T WAIT FOR SIM CITY!

Most people I know still prefer the way Steam works, with online install and offline play possibility

I'm sorry, but there are still way too many instances where people play games without internet connections available for this to be acceptable.

Not to mention instances where games lose their sparkle, become "legacy" games, have support for their servers discontinued and thus become completely and utterly incompatible with the future.

Online play should always be optional and never forced unless a game is being sold as an online game.

Indeed. I see absolutely no reason why games should follow this trend. It's absolutely ridiculous, and it's even more ridiculous that people support it. Does the music industry expect you to be online in order to listen to the music you purchased? The film industry? Why is it okay for the videogaming industry to squarely give their consumers the middle finger when no other entertainment industry does the same?
