I have friends in Korea who say this game is HUGE over there, they have been playing on the korean server's and say they gameplay is pretty awesome, except for the fact they don't understand the quest text for shit :P
 
It follows a typically Korean formula in terms of quest set up though. And for some reason I can't fathom they LOVE grinding.

And PvP. I'd rate the PvP is probably worth a look, although I've mostly avoided it so far.

Battles are fun - although I found after a few hours of playing their claim of using the same skill rotations over and over not happening and this means there's more skill involved to be the biggest load of BS.

Tera! lets you set up your own skill chains, and a chain is only 2 skills long, but you can set up recurring chains like so:

skill 1 -> skill 2
skill 2 -> skill 3
skill 3 -> skill 1 .... and recycle ad infinitum (or until whatever you're hitting has the good graces to fall over and call it quits)

There is also zero variation in story based on what race and class you choose - every character has EXACTLY the same storyline. Which means that trying out difference classes and races quickly turned massively boring because I was doing exactly the same thing over and over.

I've had access to all the betas so far, and frankly I could hardly be bothered to spend time actually playing. I'll make a concerted effort during the open beta though, if only so I can put a proper review together. But usually an hour is enough and then I hop back to Aion. Which is saying something.

Multiple news sites are reporting a verdict in the long-running NCsoft vs. Bluehole Studio litigation regarding stolen Lineage III assets. According to the sites, the Korean Supreme Court has confirmed the guilty verdict in the criminal trial originally reached in 2009. The body also doled out "tougher punishment" in the form of prison time and probation for a former Lineage III department head and a team manager.

ThisIsGame.com points out that there could be more bad news coming for the team that turned Lineage III assets into TERA, as the outcome of a $5.7 million civil suit is still pending.

MMO Culture has published a timeline of the TERA legal proceedings, though neither website cites a source for its information. We'll update the story with more details as they become available.

Mmm thats not good. Think I'll stick to what I decided, and that is to stay away from mmo's for now. It seems to take over my life to much :) (speaking from a hardcore wow perspective)
 
I doubt I'll ever pay subs for a game again, it just makes you feel like you have to play all the time to get your monies worth. Maybe that's just me. :)

This is exactly how I've been feeling lately. It's like your forced to play during the month or else your sub is a waste.
 
So I eventually got the client for the EU Open Beta event and the combat was surprisingly very fluent for our latency. Even did a few duels and won the majority, excluding the ones where my opponent was double my level.

I'll probably see how far I can go in the Open Beta, but so far I'm not yet disappointed.
 
From what I have gathered the two things that Tera has going for it is the combat and the end game political system, every else is very much korean; grinding, barely clothed women, boring quests, more grinding, women with even fewer clothes... :)

And I'm really iffy on the combat - it has it's plusses and minuses, but I'll stick with targeting. If I want to get a test of my aiming skills, I'll play an FPS. And as much as they brag about how the combat flows - well, if you're a spellcaster you'll work out for yourself pretty quickly that it's not strictly true. I've yet to cast any kind of spell while moving - combat kind of goes like this with my mystic - toss a couple of my basic attacks his way, standing still for each shot, wait for critter to get close, AoE, wait for him to transmit his big attack, trot sideways, stop and cast again. Kinda meh, in my book.

Oh, and the third thing it (possibly) has going for it is the ongoing debate about how much of a pedo you'll be if you play an Elin character :p
 

Created an Elin Slayer, just out of sheer lols, but I got flack for it from a friend who's character is a Popori.

So I just said "Well going by the same analogy, you're a furry pedo then". :P

Elin Slayers are epic - I keep getting lolz from this tiny thing whipping out this mother of a sword and clobbering things with it.

It's all a moot point though - my belief is that the people who take such issue with it need to take a long hard look at themselves to discover the root of the problem. Me - I just play the damn game. ;)

Oh ... Character Customization - that's another one of my gripes with the game. It's insanely limited for somethign releasing in this day and age.
 
Sup dudes, so release this week, really keen to start playing, but 20+ gig download on 1mb takes a while, anyone in the Cape Town area I can get the client from?
