4 year-old kills father after he didn't get a PlayStation

This will teach me to start clicking the links in my twitter feed since my first thought was "spoiled brat syndrome". Thanks Omega for clarifying that it was in fact "bad parent syndrome". :/
 
This is in fact a sad matter... The father is to be blamed for leaving a loaded gun in the reach of a child. I just have one question, I dont know much about guns, but if the safety is off is it possible for a 4 year old to hold a gun (they a bit weighty) point it at his dad and pull the trigger and get a head shot on the first go? It doesnt say how many times the gun was fired, and is the trigger easy enough to pull? okay that was two questions.

It really depends on the gun. Consider where it happened, Saudi Arabia, why did the father have a gun? Was he military? Police? terrorist? In what condition was the gun. Most hand guns have a rather stiff trigger and I find it hard to see a four year old pulling it, however you get weapons with lighter triggers. There are however so many variables to consider, The fact that a single shot is all thats mentioned lends further credence to this being nothing more than a combination bad parenting and a horrible accident.

That was my first conclusion that the trigger would be hard to pull and the four year old would have to squeeze extremely hard... but as you say there are guns with lighter triggers. I have picked a gun up and the weight is still bugging me, cause i dont see a four year old holding that gun... It doesnt comprehend. Thanks for clearing up the trigger thing for me.

I am going to agree with you and say definitely a horrible accident and bad parenting.

As Omega said - depends on the gun. A lot have a fairly stiff trigger to prevent accidental shootings - in my experience revolvers tend to have pretty stiff triggers - my dad handed me his .38 when I was five, and unless the hammer was already cocked I had a hell of a time pulling the trigger - needed to use two hands. Some pistols, on the other hand, have very light triggers that barely need any effort to pull.

As you said, the gun could have been quite heavy, so I can easily picture a 4 year old trying to pick it up, using both hands, getting one finger on the trigger and squeezing it because he was trying to get a grip on the thing.

As for the father owning a weapon - Saudi's are allowed to own personal weapons provided they are over 21 years of age and have a clean criminal record - a seperate licence also allows the carrying of firearms by civilians. Not that different from the state of affairs here a number of years ago.

No one of the stories I've check even questions why the loaded gun wasn't saftied and immediately put away and out of the reach of a child. I mean that's BASIC gun safety.

The father made this mistake, it's nobody else's fault. Hopefully the son will not remember this when he grows up.

Yeah, I looked at that and just shook my head. I still think that big names like RT, which is known for its reporting and often portrays the stories differently than other mass media outlets, jump so easily on the "Child Kills Father due to Playstation Row".

Kid is being labelled the youngest Murderer in Saudi Arabia, I think he will be lucky not to get a death sentence.

Yep. He know exactly what happened there. No random speculation at all. Emotion doesn't imply reasoning ability - but the dude is convince he's right.

Anyways - good response on your side, but I reckon leave it ... no point in getting into a shouting match on the internet.
