RAID Help

Hi

I have a old pc and I would like to put raid 5 or 6 on it and then use it as network storage/download machine.

Currently I have a 1TB that has windows on it(recently replaced, it crashed).
3TB is on a Lian Li expansion card.
and 5 x 1.5TB drives(that I want in raid).

Motherboard make Intel
Chip set DP35DP
with a Core 2 Duo.

Space and redundancy are priorities.
Then ease of install.
Speed would just be a bonus.

Any advice or recommendations are welcome.

Raid 5 or 6 would be best for the 5 x 1.5TB drives as this will give you most disk space, unless you want speed, then go Raid 10 (will use 4 drives, can put the 5th in for a hot spare?).

What controller will you be running this RAID on? Software / Hardware controller?

Was hoping to get a good software RAID or cheap and reliable hardware raid controller? any advice would be good.

Your motherboard has a software raid controller most probably, but whether you can have all those drives running simultaneously will be another thing.

I cannot suggest a hardware raid controller sorry, not too clued up on this hardware.

Let us know what you decide to do.
