Guild Wars 2

Somehow I've managed to contain it enough to keep it going out of control. I think work is the only reason I'm still keeping my sanity. Tomorrow is going to be torture, so I think I'll go watch The Avengers and burn a couple of hours. :D

I've still got Aion to keep me busy, so no worries there :p

Well got my 1 TB cleared out just for FRAPS so I can record raw video feed with, then will spend teusday converting it all...

Once the weekend is over I just want you chaps to answer two questions for me:

1. Is there a sidekicking system? In other words can you join up in a group with friends that are higher level than you?
2. What systems are in place to find groups? Is it only in the zone you are in that you can LFG in channel? Can you LFG for a group in a zone that you are not in? Is there a group finder system such as in DDO/CoH or a dungeon finder system such as in Rift/WoW?

These are two questions that I am burning to find out since the lack of both these systems are what have frustrated me intensely in the release of every new MMO in the last 2 years and the lack of these two systems has severely impacted on my playing in groups with friends or PUGs.

To the first Question you can quest with your friends higher level than you and they can quest in your lower level areas too and still get exp the Areas determine what level you are so if your level 60 and got into a level 15 area you are downleveled to level 15 to make the area more of a challenge instead of higher levels just speed clearing everything and i think it also works vice versa if you go to a higher level area you also get leveled up to stand a chance in that area i think...

Question 1 can be answered already and that is that you can only get sidekicked down, but I've heard talk about getting sidekicked up for dungeons, but I'm not sure if that's true (it would be kinda dumb tbh). Also sidekicking is completely automatic, if you go to a lower level area you will be scaled down to the areas level, it's not dependent on the level of your group members.

As for the LFG system I'm not sure anyone but the press will be allowed to do the dungeons this weekend. The first dungeon is level 30 and the press get to go to an NPC that bumps them up to 30 in order to be able to do the first dungeon. So don't expect any real news regarding a LFG system.

That is completely debatable. In a game where an "endgame" does not exist, or rather has been marketed with no real "endgame", the usual rush to end level is not really desirable. For me, I never play "endgame" in MMOs, it is a huge treadmill, but that is another debate. What always concerns me is this "drive" to level up quickly to catch up with your friends. I am an explorer, preferring to explore every inch of a game world, sample all it's detail. It always means that I never really get to group with friends as they are always streaking ahead in MMOs. It is why I have always LOVED city of heroes, you are able to join your friends in higher level "dungeons" even from low level and have fun together and gain from it. I heard rumours of GW2 having sidekicking and it immediately peaked my interest as it would allow me to join up with friends.

"Endgame" designed MMOs have a gating of content, purely because they want to ensure people do not experience "content" too quickly as then those people have nothing to do. This is the biggest reason why these MMOs do not have a sidekicking system. I am hoping GW2 will give people lots to do and not gate people from content.

The reason I don't think it will work is because of the way the character building system works. If I was a level 10 and got sidekicked up to play a level 50 dungeon I wouldn't have access to all my skills since I wouldn't have unlocked them yet, I won't have my elite skill, I'd be missing a bunch of important utility skills and my trait points wouldn't be up to scratch. This will make me more of a liability than anything.

Edit: Start those launchers guys, beta has an update! :D

Anyone who doesnt know this already GW1 is having an event for those who havent added Lucky Rank 2 or Unlucky Rank 2 to your HoM nows your chance come AFK at Shing Jea Monastery (Factions Expansion). All you need to do is buy a few festival tickets 15g each and AFK in the corner of 9 Rings..
Wish I could try this... I've only got 2 plat on my account which I tried using 1.2plat on tickets, which was only 80 tickets. :/

Ugh 140 games of chance lost... seems I've got a long way to go for Rank 1's even.
