Star Control: That moment when you hear the dreaded UR-QUAN "GO GO GO"

haha this game brought me many of my fond gaming memories... Playing Melee mode for a battle to the death against one of my brothers or friends on the 2D plane of space avoiding all the astroids and planets while trying to out maneuver your opponent and inflict as much damage as possible.

Everybody had their favourite ship.. Whether is was the fast agile and highly annoying Arilou that teleported all over the field that in the right hands could destroy you 1 damage at a time or the big red ball of death that shot massive homing balls of fire dealing huge amounts of hurt to your ship also known as the Mycon.

So what was your best ship?

The first Star Control got us into a lot of trouble when we got to high school, they had these ancient 386's that were used for the Standard 6 typing/basic computer skills classes and we found SC was installed on 90% of them, so yeah we played a lot of SC.
SC II on the other hand is probably the reason why I was sick a lot in Standard 2, I got the game and after installing it, I spent an entire two weeks just playing it and loving it. On occassion I still fire up Urquan masters on my laptop and just play through it again, Mass Effect 1 reminded me a lot of SCII.
SC III on the other hand, wasn't as good, it tried, it really did, but it just failed.

LOVED this game.

2 was my staple pvp fun timez.

I loved the ship which spewed out the little satellites which made a barrier around you. It shot a short distance lazer for massive dps.

That's the Chmmr ship very nice, I liked the Pkunk one, yes it was weak and your way of regenerating power was to insult the enemy, but you had an 80% chance of regenerating after death ;-). Or the Spathi ship with the homing missle that shot out the back, you could take out most ships with it, even an Urquan Dreadnaught or Kor-ah one...

Yes I played it a lot and remember, most of the alien species, their ships and stratergies :-(

The Utwig Jugger, time your shields right and you`re invincible. you can defeat a whole Combined fleet of every ship in the game with that one.
When playing against the AI, the thraddash can also go on indefinately

Was just thinking of that game myself. The Syreen race of all green space babes (now where have I seen that before). My favorite ships however were the ones of the Pkunk (that bird like species). Fast and nimble ships. Worked like a charm when doing hit and runs. Also the Orz (with the turret on top and able to send scouts out that attacked the other ships).

What a truly awesome game that was@

I hated the Thraddash, not that hard to kill if you had a long range ship and could keep them at bay.

The ship I hate the most is the Spathi, to combat it with a slower ship.
the worst ships were probably the Umgah, followed by the Ilwrath

I loved playing as the Spathi to fight it, arrrrgh... Launch launch Fighters was one way ;-)

I loved Star Control. Remembered playing this for about two weeks straight on December holiday... Until my parents decided it was time to switch the computer off so that I can finally get some sleep. I was still in Primary School."whistling:

I reckon this game needs a HD remake and should then be sold on XBL and PSN. The controls should work just as well on consoles.

I managed quite a few at one stage, if you hit primary and secondary fire just at the right moment you could spawn back.
