Post Spamming - Flood Control

Xero

Official Zombie Slayer
I'm sitting here trying to catch up on things I've missed today on account of work and I noticed a new user doing a post driveby on the Articles Section (Enlightened End)

This obviously in an attempt to reach the required 20 Posts for the Diablo III Comp

Can we not curb this type of behaviour by either lmiting new users ability to post for the first 24 hours or by imposing some sort of flood control for posting 20 times in 2 minutes

While I always support new users on the forums I do not see the spamming of one liner posts just hitting the bare minimum character count to allow the post and contributing nothing to the discussion as being a positive forum growing experience

Specifically with this Diablo Comp I've noticed at least 3 new users doing the same thing, really guys, we need to rethink how this works

8 Posts in 3 Minutes (There are more but some of our regulars have posted over them)
All these guys do is hit the comp barrier and then dissapear, they do not form part of the community at all

Yup I'm all for new members to the community but the fact that they take advantage of the competitions and disappear after they're done annoys me.

Gd luck Xero, if you do a quick search in off topic for Spamming you should find a dozen or so threads on this subject. I think most of us have just come to accept it as one of those things. Personally I like to every opportunity to troll them, but that's just me.

As far as I can tell the comp mods (Sycogrim in this case) disqualify those certain users from the comps, there was a similar case with the 1st xbox (or ps3) comp this year. As Omega points out, we've learnt to accept it and even troll them time and again. Pretty sure that user will regret the spamming;)

Don't worry Xero, I have received threats from some of those hill billy's for (waitforit) banning them from the comps for spamming, and shame poor babies they wonder why.

so we have a tough guy then? lol
//Do you guys track IP's and then ban all accounts created from there as well?

I would say make the minimum post count higher, like 100, then newbs will give up before trying to spam their way to this limit.

Peronally, I also sometimes post 10 post in 5 minutes, because I get on the forum, check What's New, then open all the relevant thread and read / comment on them. It may be easier just increasing the minimum lifetime post number.

They mainly join the forum to spam and win... Then, they don't post until new comp arrives, or so it seems anyway...

Thats so true, I wanted to spam useless stuff to get up to 20 posts for diablo 3 comp but just didn't have the heart to do it lol. THey should increase the post limit to at least 50 so only members that contribute to the community can enter the comps.

Yup, 50. It would have been impossible for me to enter, but it increases the quality of the forum in general.

You could make the post count a 100 and people would still spam. The moment the chance of free stuffs come into play all pretence of civility and common sense are checked at the log in screen.

I say leave as is and just look the other way when I troll the crap out of the spammers.
