Zombie apocalypse or Alien invasion?

ok so here's the deal, me and a couple of mates had this discussion, because this sort of thing just comes up when we're in the same (cyber)space, so I thought I would get the MyGaming family involved, cause I seem to be out numbered in my opinion...

If you had to choose between surviving a zombie outbreak or fighting an alien invasion (think The Walking Dead vs Falling Skies), which would you choose?

Logically my brain immediately votes for the zombies, I just think your odds for survival is much better.

Alien Invasion. Zombies no longer have reason so they will always come for you and the slightest scratch could turn you. Not to mention that the virus could eventually mutate into something much worse.

Alien Invasion would suggest an intelligent (or at least as smart as humans) race. Meaning that they may be open for reasoning or, worst case scenario, all out war where, like in Falling Skies, our only option would be to make the occupation as costly for the invaders as possible.

EDIT: However if Alien species has any sense they would just avoid us.

I agree with Zombie apocalypse, since after watching many Zombie movies including one specific one Zombieland and the cardinal rules to surviving, I think my chances are pretty decent when it comes to being among those who would live!! :)

Alien tech would be too hardcore for my liking :p

True, but with zombies you know your enemy, you know how to fight back and almost anything you can pick up can be an effective weapon. With aliens you don't know their weakness, and they have superior technology.

Let's say for the sake of this discussion, the aliens are here to stay and we're not welcome, not even as annoying pets
 
Ya I would rather face dumbass zombies than intelligent Aliens with their high tech weapons.

I already have a gameplan for that anyway. I got diddly squat against super smart aliens.

If Aliens wanted our world for its resources they would have showed up by now. Any kind of war would probably be due to some sort of Misunderstand at First Contact or Humans Unwittingly starting Hostilities ala the first contact War in the ME Universe. Meaning that there is a good chance the mess will be cleared up and Humanity would benefit greatly. Even if they where a Covenant type society that is made up many different species that conquer other worlds and assimilate the natives into their society, kind of like with the Native Americans, humanity would still benefit greatly. Even if they came here with no intent other than wiping humanity from the universe we would benefit since war drives innovation, look at the advances made between the start and end of WWII alot of that stuff simply wouldn't exist had it not been for that conflict. And would it really be such a bad thing if we did get wiped out? Look at us, we've been here for what, 30 000 and so far have only set foot on our own moon some 40 years ago. Basic Darwinism, survival of the fittest. If we can't survive their attack/invasion perhaps we are better off in some alien history book as little more than a foot note.

Zombies you may know how to fight but its the ultimate catch 22, every one of you they kill their numbers grow. You are alot more likely to die trying to kill 1 or a small group than you are likely to fully kill them. Plus all those zombie movies has 1 thing in common... pretty much everyone dies at the end.

EDIT: Zombie Apocalypse turns you against your fellow man. Alien Invasion Forces you to work with your fellow man.

this is also the basis of a conspiracy theory that says one of the ways to get everyone to unite under a new world order is to fabricate or incite(depending if you believe they exist or not) an Alien invasion.

Omega, dude, you have my vote to be our leader in the reasoning with the Aliens.

Yep, This was used in the Watchmen graphic novel. Its a pretty good idea but the problem is eventually the truth has to come out and then it will be alot worse. Much easier to just go piss off some actual aliens.
 
but surely with all the zombie movies and TV series' we've been bombarded with we will be able to learn from "our" mistakes and come together and work as one

and in a way the zombie outbreak could be seen then as a sort of stupid-people-cleansing, so it'll probably be like the world vs the infected USA :D

like you said Omega, it'll be survival of the fittest, leaving only us smart folk in the majority ^_^

Do we live on the same planet? Because I dunno about you but so far there hasn't been alot of learning from our mistakes going on around here.

Also I dunno about you but my experience is that smart folks are rarely the fittest.

Smart people surviving would more likely be true for Alien invasion than Zombie Apocalypse.
