If you Haven't watched it not only do I not want to hear your opinion of it but you should probably turn back now & return once you have.

Now with that out of the way....

Since there are bound to be a great amount of discussion around this final chapter in the Nolan Batmythos I figured we should have one place in which to discuss it, spoilers and all.

After seeing the film on Saturday afternoon and feeling that through most of it, it only really compared to Batman Begins & that The Dark Knight is still the best of the lost the Ending changed that. Dont get me wrong, I still thing The Dark Knight is the best but if you have to consider the 3 films narratives as one long epic. The yarn Nolan spins from Batman Begins to the Conclusion of The Dark Knight Rises is simply epic. On its own Merit The Dark Knight Rises is only an OK movie, there are some pacing issues, the story feels a tad disjointed at times and the Second act is way too slow. That said it is still one of my all time favourite Trilogies ever. Now I only hope DC & WB have the good sense to leave this IP for at least 5 - 10 years and focus instead on something else. Any more tampering with this series would kill it, Nolan finished it off flawlessly and left almost no loose ends.
 
I totally agree. For me it was ok, quite good at best, there were a lot of mistakes and it was a bit predictable at times, but all in all I think it made for a good ending to the trilogy. Unfortunately my brain compares everything to The Avengers now, so I didn't go expecting a lot, but in the end I think the Nolans did a good job.

Now, thet being said, shall we start a betting pool on how long it'll be before they release the Robin spin-off :p

Remember that the original Robin became Batman a couple of times in the Comics so I think Blake took up the batcowl and not the robin tights. But I am happy it was left right there.

See I wouldn't compare it to the Avengers, the avengers was more action that narrative. So on action sure the Avengers take the prize but as far as narrative goes The Dark Knight Trilogy reigns supreme. I also predicted the major Bane twist but you would have to be pretty dim not to.

or maybe he will be Nightwing :D

True, they are two different genres.
And as soon as Fox told Bruce the "Bat" doesn't have working autopilot it kinda spoiled the ending for me as well. But seriously, you're flying out a fusion bomb, let's not try and hit everything on the way out with it :p

Thought it was a good ending I felt they pussied out, like they where afraid the fans would riot if they actually killed Batman. Then again in the minds of Gotham City the Batman did Make the Ultimate Sacrifice.

yeah a small part of me was kinda dissapointed when they revealed he didn't really die, I think they messedup there. It doesn't even make sense really if you think about it, Bruce Wayne is a world renown figure, how is nobody going to notice a dead billionaire sitting in a café in Florence? :p

I know...but still. My opinion, it would have been an even better ending I he stayed dead, I almost shed a tear damnit...

Went to a screening last night. Wasn't impressed.

A lot of it was predictable and there was just too many movie cliche's. I mean dropping the frequency blocker right before attaching ? Stupid.

I also felt that a lot of the setup bits were not right. Lets do 10 pushup and were ready.

The opening scene was amazing though.

HAHAHA! when we were at the pre-screening, you could actually hear the whole theater go "UGH!" :D
 
I quite did enjoy the movie, but some scenes did feel weird. There was a stunned silence when he "blew" up and the girl behind us actaully cried. Fitting end to the trilogy, though they did take the safe route. Bit predictable with Tait being Talia if you know your bat history. And you can't compare this to Avengers. Two totally different movies.
 
The biggest difference between TDKR and TDK is the Joker. He made it feel like Gotham instead of just a regular city, everything was just a little off a little zaney, not quite right.

After having such a powerful (screen presence/performance) villain, Bane felt rather ordinary, like he could have been the villain in a Steven Segal movie.

I enjoyed TDKR quite a bit but I would say it was the weakest of the three, it didn't have the discovery and growth of Batman Begins or the epic Good versus Evil, Order versus Chaos of The Dark Knight.
 
I was reminded of No Man's Land a lot while watching the movie. I enjoyed it very much, seeing the whole story that Nolan built up and ended with this series.

Bane was a great villain for me, much closer to his comic book counterpart than the horrible depiction of him in that kak 90's version of Batman. A one-man army, who is more strategist than mindless beef head. Harding managed to pull off a fantastic Bane and it was interesting to see that the instead of the familiar serum that made Bane a hulking monster, that they used the mask to dispense something that keeps his constant pain away.

Including Tahlia al Ghul was superb. I immediately knew something was up when they slated Bane as Ras al Ghul's child. Genius move from Nolan and his crew. Also very rewarding for comic book fans, who are keeping an eye on Damian Wayne.

All in all, I think this was a great movie. Great conclusion to probably my favourite movie trilogy of all time. More comments to follow.
 
Watched this last night... It was better than Batman Begins but I still liked TDK more.

Tonight I am playing Arkham City again!!!!
