Gaming mice – beware the hype

Totally agree. I do hate those mice with a zillion button on the side. I just don't see the point of assigning all those buttons to one finger since that is almost always going to be slower than assigning keyboard shortcuts, also by moving you thumb around that much you could move your mouse along with it which would be bad.

Finally the Logitech MX518 gets some recognition, never had the inclination to try one of those lame Razer wannabes.

A list full of features that you probably won’t need to care about

Is there a part of the article missing?

So if all of the above isn’t really important, what is? Well comfort for starters, and features that you can actually notice in game.
I can surely notice a 300dpi vs 900dpi+. When I play FPS I don't want to move around my whole table, I prefer as little as possible where as slower speeds are better for something like a mmo.

Article summary:
I don't get the article :o

:edit
Side note, best gaming mouse mat I currently have is a R10 plastic thin cutting board. It is vastly superior to the roccat R400-something mat...

That's why I love the Razer Krait. It's a gaming mouse, just without all those unnecessary things that you're never going to use anyway.

I have the Razer Naga epic and the main reason is for comfort and secondly its wireless. the buttons on the side i don't even use. If Razer brought one out with only forward and back on the side and kept the shape I would rather get that one.

I was an MX518 lover for many years. I think mine has lasted over 7 years, and it still works. However, I was recently given a RAT 5, which is pretty nice too.

I would like to have a mouse lasting me over 5 years... But technology hates me, so... That won't happen.

My ms oem mouse lasted years, till I finally treated myself with a roccat kone+ :)

Logitech G700 here. Comfortable, all buttons in the right places - I actually use all of them, in FPS as well. A slight movement of the thumb can activate any button on the side. And best of all, it's wireless. I can't stand wires on a mouse.

I've had my Razer Krait since 2006 only sent it back once for the left button.

I also Have a Razer Naga Molten, I like all those buttons even when your not using them in a particular game, I do use them in other games, They do rather come in handy even for FPS.

Yeah, I picked my Krait up in December 2006 for only R200. It's a bit worse for wear now, matt finish on the buttons is starting to come off and go all shiny, and sometimes it just randomly stops working until I plug it out and back in again. I replaced it with a Microsoft Sidewinder X3 last year, but I couldn't get used to the plastic feel of the whole thing, so I went back to the Krait. Looking for another Krait, but none of the local retailers stock them, so I can only import one which is going to cost me quite a bit of money.

I had my old Viper until about 6 months ago when it died, bought it in 2005, also my limited edition blue deathadder is still going strong for almost 7 years.

I have the roccat kova. Its a nice mouse and I really am enjoying it. I love the effects that I can do with the lights on it and it is really comfortable to hold. Its my first gaming mouse I have had as the others were all R50 - R80 jobbies which packed up really quickly.

Anyone got the Logitech G400? The buttons are fully customisable, right? Any complaints? Am fed up with my double clicking Microsoft (Razer) Habu.

Bought the G400 after this article brought it to my attention. Did some research and it seemed adequate at a decent price. No complaints with it yet, though I still have to put it through its paces for Battlefield 3.

It's replacing my old messed up Habu which was a stand in for my Razer Imperator which did not play nice with my desktop PC coming out of hibernation. Giving my Razer Imperator one more chance last week, I realised now the Imperator is skipping on the 'control' side of my Razer eXactMat and doesn't work at all on the 'speed' side. My Imperator will have to remain my laptop mouse, as it works fine there with my Razer Mousesports mousepad. My days of supporting Razer mice are over. Too many dissapointments over the years!

Have a razer deathadder. I have to say having the mouse at 1800dpi setting is the best, Otherwise it strains my wrists trying to control the oversensitive thing.
