I've been slowley upgrading my pc, and it's time to get myself a quality headset! I'm honestly not very clued up about what makes a good headset good, so hopefully someone here can help me out :)
My budget is around R1300 so hopefully I can get something decent.

I've been looking at the Logitech G35 because I know the Logitech brand is fairly reliable, but I'm also very interested in the CM Storm Sirus 5.1 headset, my case and mouse are both CM Storm so I thought it would fit in well :P Also the Corsair Vengeance 1500, just cause it's cheaper name brand 5.1.

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction :) thanks

OK

Im the biggest logitech fan around. I use everything that Logitech possibly bring out.. Including about 10 differnet mouses. couplle of keyboards even TV remotes.

But take it from me the Logitech G35 is not the way to go.

The G930 is Brilliant and wireless but over your budget.

any sub R1500 headset budget = R650-R750 and that is for the Roccat kave 5.1

You can even then use the remaining funds to buy a xonar soundcard.

And fully enjoy your kaves.

There is no headset better than the kaves.

This is for gaming. as its 5.1

Your senheizers has better stereo quality for music

There are a couple of good threads already on this, just use the search function and you should be good to go!

Yeah Logi G35 is digital surround and Kaves is analogue surround, The Kaves is the way to go for gaming for your budget Then use the Xonar DG headphone soundcard(R299 I think) and its really worth it for the Kaves.

Why not look at a proper headset?

Gaming headsets aren't all that great and only the top tier brands are decent.

Proper headsets are al stereo.

I prefer the 5.1 directional audio for gaming . It gives you a MASSIVE boost.

What about the CM Storm Sirus though?.. Tried searching the forums and couldn't find anything about it

That depends on the user. Have you played BF3 with a proper stereo headset mate?
Its a completely different experience.

I own 2x Logitech G35's and I have owned Roccat kaves.

Both are epic for gaming but sound quality is far from special, compared to a proper stereo headset.
You also don't need to spend a fortune, you can get a really decent stereo headset for around 1k.

Like I said its up to the user though.

Roccat Kaves or bust :P

Directional audio, specially in Comp gaming makes a huge difference. I can hear Cranky's silent sneaky B plant on crossfire all the way from A Grass :p

Yeah competitive gaming sure but for everyday gaming (Single player, racing titles ect) Nothing beats a stereo headset.

Roccat Kaves or bust :P

You don't even listen to the audio in game, you just have turbo noises playing through you're kaves while you game.

Sal maar sondag moet kyk ;)

As jy rerig jou headies wil uit toets .

AS jy agter A courtyard op crash staan by dai cinderblock dan kan jy hoor iemand in Blou hardloop of bu die ramp af.

OP ? Waht did you decide on ?

I had a quick look this weekend of friend I knew went and bought kaves on my advise and it came down to just under 30 lol.

Im like a Roccat Rep.

MY headies fell of the table last night and in an attempt to catch it i grabbed the cable and this is never good haha.

Right hand side speakers now don't work.

2 years it works only for me to destroy it in 2 seconds :(

I think you need to look at what you want to use it for. If your gonna use them for music and videos then stereo will be a good option high end quality.
I use the Corsair vengence 1500 headset because I'm not here to make music but play games. Therefore I believe that the 7.1 makes sense since I want to get a feel of direction rather than quality. Plus your average person can't separate high end headsets from mid range simply because you don't know what to listen for and even then you need to focus on the sound.
Based on the above I believe for gaming a proper gaming headset is a must have much in the same way a producer should go for Scheinhezer over Razor or Corsair. Your next question should be how you want to connect to your pc. 5.1 and 7.1 headsets will need either a USB port or you will have 3-5 audio jacks to plug in. Therefore are you willing to add a 7.1 sound card to your basket. If not then USB will be you alternative.

Personally I find that the Corsair headset just fits my best, its 7.1 and USB and I have never regretted my choice. If you want to follow my choice then I will also point you in the direction of Comx computers.

Personally I would highly recommend the G35's. I own a pair as well as the Diablo 3 Steelseries headset, and the G35's absolutely trump the Steelseries. And they are both pretty much in the same price range.

^^^^^

NO.

The G35s are 1K odd where hte SS ones are R700 odd.

The kaves are cheaper than G35s and better. The only Logitech you want is the G930 that has better sound quality than the kaves.

Ive got both. and 2 of my mates that had G35s bought kaves after testing mine at a LAN.

Wow ... ok soz for that then.

the Diablo 3 headies are essentially Siberia V2 `s that got skinned. Assumed they wouldnt be over priced.

YOu can get Siberia V 2 for R700 -R800

That is how i got to my price :D
