I don't see this happening. LoL peaks at like a million concurrent players and they only have 3 servers. Why exactly would they bother with a server supporting a few thousand at best. Not to mention that I've never seen a f2p game allowing third parties hosting servers, apart from maybe TF2.

Er, I somehow doubt they have "3 servers". Maybe 3 main regions which have their own datacenters.

While I would love to see local LoL servers, I do have to agree, unlike HoN, I've never heard of LoL outsourcing their network infrastructure.

No of course I completely meant they only have 3 servers and using the word under the most strictest technical sense. Considering I can't speak to the network setup nor can I definitely say how many datacenters they may or may not have or where they may or may not have them, I foolishly used the all encompassing colloquialism of 'server', my bad.

Also, Zolmaster, I know this name, from the way back machine of CS. Maybe you're just a clone.

This is highly unlikely but if they can pull it off it can be a great asset to us
Not so sure about that. The way the game is set up having a small pool of players may actually land up being detrimental especially when you consider wait times and match making.

I chatted to the League of Legends just a little shy of a year ago about getting LOL servers for SA and at that stage it was very much a dead end for the time being. The server requirements are like those for an MMO, i.e. massive. So its not just a server, its an entire cluster of servers. At that stage, there wasn't sufficient local numbers to support the large investment required.

There are other F2P games hosted in SA, in addition to TF2: Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield Play4Free (http://bit.ly/Tf6CpV), also Teeworlds. Also, IS hosts HON and Quake Live.

Still its good to see more movement on online gaming in SA. The more we grow, the more opportunities like this will come to actual fruition.

Just making sure man, I've heard people say some of the craziest and most misinformed things online.

Nope. I am the one and only. Just don't play CS anymore. Most of my time is spent in LoL and Max Payne 3 MP of all things. Should probably get back into BF3, but I only like the maps with helicopters!

with dota 2 and heroes of newerth i don't see this happening. However if there is enough deman, then why not.

I think it can work. But it must be for AFRICA not just SA, then I server and a few data centers will become sensible :] sure there are enough players for this to be feasable

No I'm talking about CS 11+ years ago, like the 0.6b days. :)

Yup. I used to play TFC, and played CS pretty much since the first beta. I remember when it was only a few rubbish maps and if guys died their guns dropped, so okes used to rush and try and grab them.

This would be amazing from competitive prospective, this would really make a huge difference in the competitive scene as with some champions ping is a major factor and effects our ability to play that champion as full potential. It would be a dream to play with 20 ping and be able to dodge and skillshot 5x times better!

Sorry to break it to you but having a 5x lower ping isn't going to make you 5x better, if you lucky it might make you 5% better. The bottleneck at those times is your brain not your internet connection.

Korea and Poland has their own servers which are not open to the rest of the world.

South America (Brazil in particular) will have their own server in the next year or so.
