Hi Guys

Im hoping to get some much needed help from the "Experts".Im thinking of going over to ADSL for my online gaming experience and i see that Cybersmart offer the Cheapest uncapped deals.

Is there any gamers who use them as an ISP and how is their service.

1mbps uncapped

I see a lot of peeps on mybroadband don't have problems gaming on it.

But best is to test it for 2/3 month and see how it is since it all depends on where you live some ISP(Afrihost,Openweb,WebAfrica) might work best where you live.

Thanxs Dude,i use 8ta or Cell C @ the moment but the pings are just to high for 1st Person Shooter games,Hoping to get a better experience with ADSL.I've been reading a few of the threads and found that some have no problem gaming with 365k line so im hoping 1mbsp will do the trick for me. Cell C is actually quite good were i stay on a 7.2mbps stick i sometimes get 8+mbps but the ping is sometimes well over 90.
8ta on the other hand was very good when i got it but then after 1 month or so the speeds started to drop and i could only game in my lounge cant even do a speedtest in the rest of the house

You will have no problems playing games on a 384kbps line its when your one person, problem with it is the dam slow download speed. But at least telkom is upgrading all(readfineprintontelkomwebsite) 384 lines to 1 meg and 1meg lines to 2meg.

Just do yourself a fav don't get into a 2 year contract thing too many things changing in the adsl space to be stuck on a contract.Get a month to month package.

1mbps uncapped

Word of warning. Im currently on their 1 mb uncapped and i am having endless issues. I can join games/servers and play without an issue, but then out of the blue i join a server, get about 3 minutes in and then pings skyrocket to 700+. dota hits in excess of 1500ms. i took out a 1 gig mweb adsl account and pings are even lower than the cybersmart were on its best day.

just my 2c

Just called them (Sounds like there's only 1 person in there call centre) the guy told me if i take out the 364k uncapped and telkom upgrade my speed to 1mbps i will still just pay the R199pm for the then 1mps uncapped service which includes adsl line rental.WOW think i'll give a try for a month a so.

Hi guys, thank you for taking an interest in our products and considering Cybersmart as your service provider. In response to a few queries raised, capped and uncapped accounts have different contention ratios and the two cannot be compared. Once Telkom has completed circuit upgrades, our prices will not remain static, they’ll change as per pricing changes made by Telkom. The pricing of the data portion of our accounts will be adjusted as per ADSL circuit speed
Thanks
Team Cybersmart

I used to have a 5GB Cybersmart ADSL Account. Gaming with it was much better than Telkom's capped account. My gaming experience is even better when I use Openweb.

Hey Cybersmart, can you tell us if your 1Mbps Uncapped account will automatically be upgraded to 2Mbps accounts, and what the price difference will be? Do I need to inform you that I would like to not pay more, and stay on the same 1Mbps account, or how will this need to happen?

Thanxs for the Reply:)
Can you please then inform what the price will be for 1Mbps uncapped(Including ADSL Line) after Telkom do the Speed Upgrades?I was told by your Call Centre guy that the price will remain the same @R199 ?

Do u plan on any new deals to offer anything better then Telkom's offer of 1mbps circuit + 5Gig for R169 ?

Welcome to our humble corner cybersmart :) Nice to see our first ISP rep here :)

Hi, you’ll need to email us with your username and let us know that you’ll be staying on a 1mb/s account, it’ll basically be a standard speed downgrade request and can be requested in the same way any other circuit downgrade is requested. Once Telkom’s pricing has been made available we’ll adjust our prices accordingly.
Thanks for the welcome :).

Just to expand on what I meant in my previous post. You won't be downgrading your circuit as the 1mb/s to 2mb/s circuit improvement is a blanket upgrade.

Going to have to disagree with you there.

I'm on the 384k Cybersmart uncapped account and it's awful for gaming. Ping is always 100ms and up (on local). Have another account with a few gigs of capped bandwidth reserved for gaming. Yes, 384 is terribly slow, but it works good with queuing up downloads which I can leave unattended. I've contacted Cybersmart but they've said that the 384k uncapped accounts should be fine, so not much I can do. So ja, I would NOT advise an uncapped Cybersmart account for gaming, from my experience. But then again it's probably what you get for the price you pay :)

OK, so explain blanket upgrade? You haven't really expanded on your previous post, just added some complexity and a term us laymen do not understand.

So Cybersmart, when will you be introducing your new Uncapped speed product pricing, so I may know if I actually want to go to 2MB or stay on 1MB? Also, if I request the downgrade, is there a 30 day notice period (i.e. will I automatically be upgraded and have to wait for and pay for a month on 2mb before I can move back to 1MB?)?
