Online Gaming with Cybersmart

Just called them (Sounds like there's only 1 person in there call centre) the guy told me if i take out the 364k uncapped and telkom upgrade my speed to 1mbps i will still just pay the R199pm for the then 1mps uncapped service which includes adsl line rental.WOW think i'll give a try for a month a so.

Don't think this is true. Contacted Cybersmart via email and was told that the total price will increase from R199 to R375 when upgrading to 1mb.

Uncapped Pricing.pdf

EDIT: Looks like I spoke too soon. Just saw this article at MyBroadBand. Upgrade from 384k to 1mb will increase from R199 to R299. Still R100 more than what was said.

Mate of mine has a 1mb uncapped option from Cybersmart.

Got super delays playing diablo 2 pings around the 800 mark.

When he called them the next day to ask the response to his was

IF you want low ping buy our business products.

So from what ive experienced and the thread on my broad band about the clauses in their contract ( one where they can charge you if you use a different isp on the line yo urent from them ) id stay way clear of them.

I have afrihost and telkom and dont have a days trouble

LOL, Cranky, I have that exact same feedback, but in email form. They are just so "fuck our clients"-ish... Really looking at moving, if only it wasn't such a 'las'.

So I would then like to know what Cybersmart is going to charge for their 2MB Uncapped account, and what the contention rations will be like on this 2MB and the 1MB lines(after upgrading).

I think that may have been me :D:D:D

Cybersmart's now 1MB, later 2MB package is doubling in price, so they BETTER not upgrade me...

Going to have to disagree with you there.

I'm on the 384k Cybersmart uncapped account and it's awful for gaming. Ping is always 100ms and up (on local). Have another account with a few gigs of capped bandwidth reserved for gaming. Yes, 384 is terribly slow, but it works good with queuing up downloads which I can leave unattended. I've contacted Cybersmart but they've said that the 384k uncapped accounts should be fine, so not much I can do. So ja, I would NOT advise an uncapped Cybersmart account for gaming, from my experience. But then again it's probably what you get for the price you pay :)

Thats why I say it depends on where you live as well and not just on the speed of your line.

Just a note of warning for if you intend to use the account for downloading also. They say they have do FUP, but in the fine print it says that only 40 simultaneous TCP connections are allowed. So this will limit your P2P speed

Also I used to have a cybersmart weekender package. I had no problems with them until I tried to move to Web Africa. Then they cut my line and left me without internet until I could get another installed. even though they told me I could just switch over

Before you commit to any contract, try to get a test account from them. All serious ISPs should at least have a test account to prove to interested parties how good they are. Unless they have something to hide of course?

I moved to Mweb this month... i havnt looked back! ping wise its half the ping of cyberdumb and now im just testing the limits of their fair usage policy :D

I also cancelled Cybersmart, some reasons:

- Last year I had a billing issue, emailed Laurie the MD, he was pretty much rude in his reply.

- Two weeks ago, I wanted to see how much it would cost to downgrade my line to 384k, so I clicked ont he site and it said "your line has been downgraded". I emailed them immediately to say it was a mistake please don;t downgrade. Then I see in the last two weeks, they downgraded my line, and upgraded it again, and I received an email today saying that my line has been upgraded back to 1MB. Seriously, did they not read my email in two weeks' time??? Now my invoices are a total fuckup again, and they still have not debited my account until today, and it's the 3rd of the NEXT month already...

- Their website and webmail is utterly shit, I have no other word for it.

- The contention on their Uncapped lines mean that I have to wait about 20 minutes to watch a normal quality 3 minute Youtube clip after hours, which is not acceptable.

Also, the new Makro at Cape Gate offered me a R1500 voucher for signing up with MWeb for a 12 month ADSL contract, so I did this and bought a new 32" Samsung LED TV, ended up paying R1499 for the TV :)

So thanks Cybersmart, but no thanks. Moving on and up!

mate today ..after havin horrid service from Cybersmart received his bill.

Now Cybesmart were kind enough to add a ADSL line to his account where he never asked for it. He only wanted the ISP as he has a telkom line.

So 48 hours into the struggle and all he got from them was " it for the adsl line you need to pay it "

Well done okes

Yeah, it sucks for gaming

Word of warning. Im currently on their 1 mb uncapped and i am having endless issues. I can join games/servers and play without an issue, but then out of the blue i join a server, get about 3 minutes in and then pings skyrocket to 700+. dota hits in excess of 1500ms. i took out a 1 gig mweb adsl account and pings are even lower than the cybersmart were on its best day.

just my 2c

Thank god someone has had the same problem as me ._.

I switched over to cybersmart at the beginning of this month and I have had absolutely HORRID ping in any type of online game. My league of legends is unplayable at a constant 400+ ping with frequent freezes and downright disconnects, even after we switched to cybersmart's so-called "business package" that the support guy assured me was "perfect for online gaming."

A bitter taste to an exciting prospect of the cheapest ADSL deal I've ever seen. We are now stuck until end july before we can back out and get another isp...

He hasn't had your issue for a long time, check the date of his post(30-09-12 :P).

I have been with cybersmart for a long time now and we have never had any ping issues...
This website is badly designed (I'll give you that), but they really are not that bad, in my opinion.
Our issues have been resolved quickly and very well.

I am rocking a fairly customized 5 Meg (or so) uncapped business line at the same price as our previous one as compensation for internet issues, which did not effect gaming much.

I have never, until now, heard of major issues with them and all of my friends on Mweb are always having horrible pings, no internet, badly shaped and throttled gaming and expensive internet costs...

What do you think about that?

I used to be with Cybersmart for around 4 years during early days of WoW. After moving and getting another line with them the service was average.... Could only ever get pings of around 700ms to 900ms peaking over 1200ms.

My dad also had a Cybersmart 2MB uncapped line, and it was so bad, they couldn't browse the net, couldn't stream youtube video's. I spent a week house sitting and bought a 5GB Afrihost account for the week and it was perfect.

They ALWAYS avoid the issue, they don't tell you whats going on until you kick up a stink. I think at during this shoddy service it was due to their network being oversubscribed and they were in a process of upgrading everything which took 3 to 6 months. On top of that their network notices ARE NEVER relevant or recent.

Anyways after my dad moved and we struggled to get the line back from Cybersmart so we could sign up with Afrihost, we eventually got it right and now have never looked back.

On my side, I have a 2MB premium Mweb adsl account and it is spot on for all of my needs, MMO's sub 180ms, local gaming is 10-40ms.

Will never look back.

Agreed that all ISP's will have issues at some point, but the experience with Cybersmart was just ongoing for a long time, with bad communication and no feedback.

Another heads up !

Have a 10 MB line with a "cybersmart" account 4mb uncapped. i got to say that im shocked at the output.
Need a app or a zip file wait a update for a game even or any file for that matter 20-50Kb MAX.
Just shocking. i know this for that i have mweb and other isp accounts and works perfect !!!! 400 kb
still no one can tell me WTF is wrong.
sometimes google wont even open.
Sorry i had to vent the truth

It's not a good idea to game with Cybersmart. I get some free bandwidth from them that I definitely would not pay for. The pings are incredibly high and very erratic.
