PC piracy rate is over 90% says Ubisoft

Zzzzzz

Strange how the company that treats the PC market the worst is the one that complains about it the most.

Wow, no point in even going into why a claim like that is total bull.

As for free-to-play I don't see it being all that successful, though I can see it annoying many people especially after they've "paid-to-win" and then the game dies off of gets terminated because someone like Ubi decided people should stop playing the old and and more to the new one and "pay-to-win" all over again.

I think there is some market for free-to-play games but it's far more limited than EA and Ubi etc would like to admit.

Personally I think their low sales are due to the nonsense they pull like DRM disguised as crap and dumbing down game franchises to appeal to a broader audience combined with indy games starting to steal more sales.

It would be so easy to write an essay on why and how the big publishers like EA and Ubi are digging their own holes to the detriment of the game industry.

edit,,,

One thing I'm looking forward to is what excuse will they use when sales/profit of free-to-play titles don't reach their unreal expectations, because when that happens they can't just pull out the piracy scapegoat.

So, if piracy was impossible, then do you think those 90% of people would then buy the game instead? Of course they wouldn't.

Reading this paragraph, the only thing that seems to concern Ubisoft is revenue. Never mind the other advantages of a solid F2P model. Look at TF2 or LoL- they're not making money because they're free to play, they're building massive player bases. That subsequently leads to revenue, even if only a tiny percentage of players actually make purchases.

Also, I can't play Ubisoft games I legally bought because of their retarded DRM solutions!

Very interested to see how this plays out as well.

So basically all their efforts at reducing piracy were almost 100% ineffective.

So can we please get rid of all those stupid methods so that we can start buying your games again?

I think Ubisoft should ask Valve how their CS:GO sales are going... I think Ubisoft is gonna feel like the highschool reject.

Wow, this is really scary. You would imagine much more money would then go into making it piracy-proof. If 5 times more games were sold legally, you could spend just as much money in innovative ways to stop piracy, and still make much bigger profits.

Not this crap again, didn't they make this statement a while ago? And they are still talking this garbage? Thing is, they still port Assassins Creed to PC and actually do a good job of it, often including extra content that you have to pay for on console. So if they really believed that 90% of their games are pirated why keep making PC games (besides F2P)? Maybe that's the direction they're moving in.

I dunno, thing is I really enjoy a lot of the games published by Ubisoft, the Prince of Persia series, Assasins Creed Series, Anno series and all I've played on PC. I just wish these game ip's weren't owned by such a moronic publisher, please Valve come rescue us all and buy out Ubi!

Pirates only pillage cause they aren't interested in paying so you still won't get your money. Please don't destroy my gaming lifestyle.

PC has always had heavy piracy, it's only when they started looking at the sales of console games, did publishers suddenly go, but wait our PC games never sell as well, I smell pirates.

These guys need to look at Valve's successful business model and adapt. Enforcing draconian style enforcement on piracy doesn't benefit anyone.
