Samsung Pays Apple $1 Billion Sending 30 Trucks Full of 5 Cents Coins

OmegaFenix

The Legendary Troll Hunter
This morning more than 30 trucks filled with 5-cent coins arrived at Apple’s headquarters in California. Initially, the security company that protects the facility said the trucks were in the wrong place, but minutes later, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) received a call from Samsung CEO explaining that they will pay $1 billion dollars for the fine recently ruled against the South Korean company in this way.

the funny part is that the signed document does not specify a single payment method, so Samsung is entitled to send the creators of the iPhone their billion dollars in the way they deem best.
This dirty but genius geek troll play is a new headache to Apple executives as they will need to put in long hours counting all that money, to check if it is all there and to try to deposit it crossing fingers to hope a bank will accept all the coins.

Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, told the media that his company is not going to be intimidated by a group of “geeks with style” and that if they want to play dirty, they also know how to do it.

You can use your coins to buy refreshments at the little machine for life or melt the coins to make computers, that’s not my problem, I already paid them and fulfilled the law.

A total of 20 billion coins, delivery hope to finish this week.

Let’s see how Apple will respond to this.

Funny if slightly childish.

EDIT: Turns out its fake.

aaaaah, would have been funny though :D

Yeah funny but I dont know if I could take a big corporate company serious if they pulled a rather juvenile stunt like this. Be it apple or Samsung. Unlike the story of the German company who made the worlds thinnest wire and sent it to their Japanese competitors who sent it back some time later with a hole drilled through the centre of the wire this doesn't prove you to be better. If Samsung wants to retaliate I hope they do it by releasing a product that beats apple at their own game, fair and square.

true. I think this whole mess left Samsung fired up, and most probably the bitter taste in their mouths will motivate them to innovate bigger and better products just to dominate Apple.... watch this space ^_^

They should just make an mp3 player or something in the shape of an apple (without the little bite)

Or lacking any original ideas and/or being unable to come up with original and functional will wither up and die like Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson and soon HTC leaving a power vacuum that could see LG become the next big name phone manufacturer. Although google now owning Motorola could bring forth some interesting ideas.

No as far as I know google bough patents from HTC but not the company as a whole. Remember that HTC, which was already struggling, lost $40 Million on Onlive which does not bode well for them. Adopting Windows's new mobile platform may also not have been the best idea in the world. I've had 2 HTCs in my life, Touch and the Dream and both where shit. So I wont be shedding any tears if they go the way of the dodo.

But all this is speculation, we will see what happens when the iPhone 5 hits the market. Its either going to be the fresh dose Apple needs if it wants to stay on top or it will be more of the same in which case Samsung might actually pull away from them. Only time will tell.

HTC make some good phones, you can't compare stuff from 5years ago to today. The desire was probably the first truly great android phone. The OneX models are also pretty hot.

I had the Dream as well, and yes, it was shit, but the new HTC's are awesome, like my current Desire HD, soon to be One X. so you can't really judge them on turdbricks they made in the past. But I must admit, I am a little guilty of that as well, I used to have a Samsung D500, was only good for a month, since then I avoided the Samsungs like the plague, but I will give them credit when it's due, the S3 is a good phone it seems.... still won't get one though :p

I've never had an iPhone, and I never will, I despise the things.

End of the day, this entire Apple/Samsung lawsuit drama is a load of juvenile sloppy baby shit, and sorry to say, but it's Apple's "spoiled brat" attitude that started the mess. just looking at the claims.... it's bloody laughable. on the grounds apple sued samsung, they should have sued........ well pretty much every other company that's ever made a touch screen phone, which at the moment is basically all of them....

I guess your right, a few people here I know have newer HTC but honestly none of them have grabbed me & Im with you malice, my wife, dad and mom had Samsung phone and they failed. G3 looks good but I dont want it, I am very happy with my unjail broken iPhone.

I think many people see the news reports of this law suit and misunderstand it, dohc actually made a really informative post about patent law in the TK last firday. Personally, as someone who holds a copyright, I can see where apple are coming from and the objectivist in me likes their style. Exitus Acta Probat, especially if it means you prosper and your competition falters.

fair enough, perhaps I am missing something. the only point I'm trying to make is, take for example, one of the "violations" apple is sued samsung over was the "bounce back" or "rubber band" effect on the menus.... REALLY? everybody uses that! and why isn't apple suing HTC, Nokia, blackberry, LG or Motorola? because Samsung is the only one threatening their market share.

and the rest of the claims seem just as absurd. and it's not just Apple that's guilty in this aspect, Samsungs counter claims are just as redonkulous, some more than Apple's

My hope is that the patent wars will get so ridiculous that eventually governments will have no choice but to reform the system completely.

Yep, thats as good a reason as any, Basic military strategy, 1 enemy at a time where ever possible. Taking on each of the companies would mean you need to defend against each, take out the strongest and not only will none of the other come to its aid but they may "surrender", i.e pay apple to use the patents or stop using them. Also I think somewhere there is an Apple vs Google Lawsuit going on about bits of Android. Think about that "bounce back" or "rubber band" effect and think where you saw it first.

Apple is suing HTC and Motorolla afaik and probably a few others. Samsung isn't the their only target it's just the biggest and being fought in the most places.

yeah they tried to sue google as well, but i think that one failed

I think Apple just likes suing people, it's like an advertising campaign for them. soon you'll have to pay them every time you take a single bite from an apple because Apple has it patented :p

I think its just business and protecting what was no doubt a sizeable fiscal investment for apple.
