I have been so, so busy lately........my boss has encouraged me to look at Joomla and Drupal, see which one works for me, and then try to learn it and apply it to, for example, redesigning our company website.

I have downloaded XAMPP [Apache, MySQL PHP [and Perl or Python are prerequisites for the Drupal and Joomla! Content Management Systems], and installed it last night, but still have some reading to do with respect to what to do now that I have installed the aforementioned stack of software. It looks mighty complicated at the moment. I wonder whether one needs to learn PHP and SQL in order to use one of these C.M.S.s?

I have downloaded some XAMPP, Drupal and Joomla! book samples to my Kindle to read through, and work out where to go from here.

The boss said that he doesn'r mind if I do some of this at work if I have free time. :)

I have worked a lot with Joomla & oscommerce and XAMPP. Once you get the hang of it, it is not to difficult. You don't necessarily have to know PHP or SQl to setup a Joomla, Drupal or oscommerce site. BUT it will help a lot, especially if you need to start customizing things. You do get plugins or scripts that you can replace certain pages with that will essentially do the job for you, but some customization will require code changes.

Once XAMPP is installed, all you really need to do is go to localhost in your browser and you should get access. From there you can start installing packages etc.

You missed out on LOADS of fun - we did a jumping puzzle - 3 hours of falling, screaming, swearing. . . .
