Seriously, get one.
Right now.

I bought one on tuesday, re-installed windows and my god. Boots to desktop in under 20 seconds. Frikkin fantastic!
BF3 joins games lightning fast too! Loads quickly!

Anyone else recently converted to the non-mechanical format hard drives :D?

Too expensive.... Price doesn't justify having to wait less time and definitely doesn't justify the lack of space you get.

That said I am going to see if I can get an SSD or two over the xmas season using my bonus. But we'll see.

If I win that PSU, that's quite a bit towards my PC that I have been wanting to build for the last few years... Then perhaps an SSD will be included. The prices have been falling so much the last while, I'm thinking it's definitely worth it.

I don't know hey, I find that we pay so much for our processors and motherboards and all that when an ssd makes an immediate impact on your machine's performance. Everything seems zippy. Plus these days you can get a good 120GB SSD for around R1200. So you use that as your main drive and use a normal HDD for all your documents and whatnot.

I made the mistake of buying a 60GB SSD a couple of years ago. It was so fast and amazing but man, did Windows grow. I ended up having to move my Steam folder to my normal HDD which is silly. So I'll be getting a 120GB SSD when Windows 8 gets released.

It's just such a nice upgrade to the machine. Yes, space wise it's bad and it costs a lot when you compare it with a normal drive but the zippiness (I can't think of a better word :-) ) makes it all worth it.

A SSD is only worth it if you buy a good quality 128GB as a bare minimum.
I got myself a 512GB Corsair Force GT and I am loving it, the only thing is its already almost 70% full :(
Prices have dropped and will continue to drop over the next few months...So may be worth it to hold on for a bit longer and maybe look at getting one towards the end of the year.

My Steam Folder is like 120GB all by itself. :(

Was thinking of getting two drives. a 128GB for the OS and a 256GB for Steam/games installation. Then finish it off with a 3TB drive for everything else. But I'll wait and see how things are at the end of the year.

I have been wanting to buy a new PC forever (had a conversation with TheJoker about this last year), but my PC is so old I will have to replace EVERYTHING including the 17" LCD. Damn, if I could skip paying my bond for one month I can buy a PC... and I would get a Raspberry Pi to be my media server and downloading PC.

It should take half that for booting into Windows. Takes mine 10 seconds.

That being said, SSD is the way to go for your O/S drive and main applications, and HDD for everything else. Especially if you run torrents and such, always use the HDD. The read/write cycle will kill your SSD in no time.

Erm..
You get 1 good SSd a 256GB.. boot windows from it. and use team boiler .. You then place your main steam folder on your 3 TB data storage drive and Boil the games you want to your SSD. I have a 128GB SSd and i have a 80Gb steam folder . I only run dota 2 and mw3 from my SSd and the rest runs perfect from the Data drive :D

...or I could do this...... I guess..... :o

My 128Gb OCZ SSD died a horrible death about a week ago. I've had to reinstall windows onto my 1Tb 7200RPM hdd and dam... it's like being in the stone age watching re-runs of Fred Flinstone...

I believe the SSD death issue is directly related to buggy Sandforce controllers. Apparently that issue has been fixed with recent firmware updates as well as newer versions/revisions of the Sandforce controller being released. You could also opt for an SSD that doesn't use Sandforce at all.

In my personal experience, I've had my SSD for almost 4 months now and I haven't had a days issue with it, I don't think I can go back to using a mechanical drive as an OS drive ever again.

I thought the SandForce controllers were the fast and preferred ones?

Ya that way most use them. And reason bugs are found in them quicker than other makes. Personally i use a Intel one for the simple reason that they have far higher quality components/validation(QA) process but they slightly slower.

SSD! definitely the way to go if u can afford it. Do some research and update firmware. Friend bought one of the faulty ones and firmware update fixed it no problems. After seeing them in action i can only drool!!!!
