Yeah, I guess you could look at it like that, but I feel that it is this attitude that is chasing new members away from the forums. I've had three friends sign up here just to leave after a few days/weeks because they say there's a certain group of regulars (the 'in'-group) that makes the forum an unpleasant place. It's not a question about 'toughing it out' either, it's largely a question of a select group having constant circle-jerks and trolling the shit out of new members or members who aren't as 'established' in the community.

I like diversity. I don't want to argue with the same three people time after time after time all because other members chase away everyone else. :(
 
Don't see it as trying to chase away new members but really the use of jerks in the start was not nice. Maybe the person will not use it next time they create a new thread.

But in any case yeah the xbox360 controller stays the best have had a few other ones like Logitech and generic ones but they don't last very long.
 
Meh, new people don't just enter an existing group of people and use the word jerk. I get the use of it on joking terms, but not when no one knows you.

Once again, there was clearly no malicious intent behind that post. If you saw malicious intent there, then it's probably because you're feeling guilty because you are, in actual fact, a jerk. Otherwise, there is absolutely no logical reason whatsoever to take offence to something that was meant as a joke, regardless of whether the person posting it is new here or not.

I'm out. Continue being assholes to newer members while everyone else wonders why new people generally don't tend to stick around for long.

Seeing as we now seem to be discussing whether it is fair to treat new members differently from other members and dictate what they are allowed and not allowed to post, yes we are.

This was utterly and totally jokingly said... yes, i am a afrikaans speaking citizen of the new, improved ZA and I can totally vouch for Whisper as I have played SpaceMarine with her and she took the time more than once to help a total Noob out. Kudo's to you Whisper.

Come on guys, let's do what we do best... let's play games.... :D

Agreed! The greeting had unintended consequences, but lets all play nicely now!
 
Thanks for the help, I'm still not 100% sure what I'm to get gamepad-wise, but I've gotten some good tips here, and have been convinced to go with the X-Box variant, rather than my original plan to get the PS3 one.

Also thanks to Pr⊕phet for the negative reputation. It really helps me weed out ... well, the weeds.

I don't think you can go wrong with the x-box variant... and as I previously posted, there are xbox controllers that have the option of switching your left analog configuration to mimic the playstation gameplay

See the analog config below (The controller I currently use):

Seriously? You're the only one who posted anything about it having malicious intent or not, it doesn't really matter all that much. Coming into a community like that is pretty rude, no matter how you try and paint it. Crzwaco had a fair point, IMO. I also believe the number of posts had very little to do with it. If you posted the same as Whisper, I'd have a similar reaction as to the one I have now.

Anyway, OT: I've had my Xbox 360 wireless controller since Feb of last year, and I agree with Graal, it's awesome. The receiver itself died on me, and my housemate's on him as well, but a quick google and a little soldering fixed that very swiftly. The out of the box usefulness of the thing simply outweighs the little bit of hassle I had with that, and some games are just better with a gamepad (think Mirror's Edge, Assassin's Creed, any somewhat bad port.) Get it!

Well, if people took offence, it's because they either have sticks up their arses or they're way too sensitive. I bet if one of the older members here posted that you wouldn't bat an eye, right?

Since when do we need to defend why we gave what rep? If we derailed a thread everytime someone got a bit of negative rep they felt they didn't deserve nothing would ever happen around here. If you feel "wronged" by the rep take it up with the person in PM and then put on your big boy/girl pants and get over it. Ur little block is still green, the world keeps turning. Lets stay on topic keep the pointless rep debates from Off-Topic.
