Voice chat apps for online team gaming

Sorry I'm new to trying voice chat while PC gaming... But i have a problem:

We're about 6 guys looking to play some starcraft 2, Dota, Diablo 3. So we're looking for a voice chat app that we can use in a party. Xfire seems to be ok 1on1 chat, but once we go into a party, there's voice lag and it causes in game lag issues in SC2. Do you guys know of any solution? The line speeds we have range from 3g to 384 adsl up to 2mb adsl lines, so low bandwidth options for the slower guys are important.

What would work? Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section!

From best to worst;

Mumble
Team Speak
Ventrillo
Skype

The first 3 require a server, there are a number of public ones around or you could always host or buy hosting. Skype is not bad and it's often pretty convenient but it does use more bandwidth than the rest and also the quality isn't as good.

Thanks for the response. I think i'll try skype out and see if it can work for us. Hopefully the high bandwidth usage wont affect out gaming much. If it does i'll have to figure out the mumble server thing. We really were just looking for private parties but i'll be forced to find out how to use it if skype fails.

Just jump on a TeamSpeak server, like the one Wage has and ask for a channel and boom, set. Going the Skype way first is just way silly.
 
Sweet i'll try that team speak too... seems legit. just need to ask for a channel. Does the channel stay open? Or do i need to ask every day?
 
Gonna test it out at home... at work at the moment. Seems cool... Its still beta i think but it looks clean and simple.

If your afraid of high bandwidth usage just use mumble servers you should find the IP for the SA mumble servers if you search for it a bit.
Other option is the team speak low populated server with average quality channel.
 
I personally recommend Teamspeak. I use it frequently, whether in friendly game, or just talking crap with buddies and admins. Teamspeak has a wealth of options to choose from. If you're concerned about latency, each channel can be set to a specific codec and upstream/downstream in Kbps. The layout. integrated chat, options are more in-depth and personally, I think it's far superior to that of Mumble.

Plus, it just looks a tad better, with avatars, descriptions and all that can be set. On the admin side, it's a lot easier to manage.

You could if you really wanted to. Mumble is free to host, while Teamspeak involves a license, but you can obtain a NPL if required. Chances are that with the latency problems, upload/download limits, a large number of publicly available servers and dynamic IP address, you'll stick with servers hosted by GSP's
 
ITs quite simple

Teamspeak is the easiest one to go for because you an set the quality of the channel to compensate for 384 lines

Mumble is the BEST by far


I prefer the IS ts server

Steam's voice chat is barebones with very little way of customising or controlling your experience. It's all right for the most casual of voice chats but if you want that casual you are probably better off using Skype.
