The impending upgrade to 2Meg - ISPs automatically upgrading our packages?

So what am I missing here?

Semi shaped... would rather pay Mweb knowing I can get max speed on torrents than have it hammerd, because too many people have donwloaded that month.

I'm just baffled as to why people use MWeb for uncapped, when Afrihost is much cheaper.

MWeb 4Mbps uncapped - R539p/m
Afrihost 4Mbps uncapped - R397p/m

Either some people don't consider all of their options well, or there are some details I'm missing (MWeb offering better overall speed, more consistent line speeds, better services, free doughnuts, whatever).

Can someone possibly enlighten me on this matter?

Basically it comes down to quality of service. I've heard from various people that Afrihost shapes / throttle like hell if you do a couple of hours heavy downloading. Not sure if it still applies, but on their uncapped options, they used to monitor usage every hour and then start throttling. So basically you get what you pay for.

P.S. From all the people I know that have tried Afrihost uncapped (granted, there are not a lot of them), I've never met anyone happy with the service... Or to put it differently, I don't know anybody anymore who is using Afrihost uncapped. They all either switched to another uncapped provider or switched to an Afrihost capped & unshaped account.

It is a capped solution (35Gb), so that should work fine. I've had no trouble with their capped offerings (which are all unshaped afaik).

Impending is such a strong word.

We've been waiting ages for the 10Mbps upgrades, I would be very surprised if Telkom manages to pull this off in less time...
