Hitman Absolution Hands On - Eurogamer Expo 2012

The Legendary Troll Hunter
The original Assassin is back... I love the Hitman serries with Blood Money being my favourite next to the original so it was with bated breath that lined up to get some hands on time with 47 after a too long hiatus. The Demo we got to try was entitled Birdies Score and I got the feeling it was early in the game. 47 had to eliminate a dude calling himself the King of China Town however he wanted, soft, loud, close, at range. Some of my earlier fears, made worse no doubt by the internet, that Hitman had become a shooter to keep the COD generation happy were somewhat alleviated as I wanted some of those a head of me try and fail, horribly, to shoot their way through the level.

I on the other hand skulk around, spotting some fugu I could use as poison & several chances to take out one of the cops guarding the king to get closer, until I found a nice vantage point with a conveniently placed sniper rifle and took the shot. It was extremely satisfying seeing the game tell me I made the hit without being noticed and got a nice score bonus. This level score is IO's attempt at making this single player game a bit more social. There will be level and game leader boards for the player to compare how well they did compared to friends and other players.
Once my target had a slug firmly placed in his frontal lobe I made my way towards the exit still dressed as the security guard I had garrotted. This is where things went south, I managed to get within sight of the exit when suddenly yellow arrows popped up on the screen and I was noticed by an entire swat team who then proceeded to empty their weapons in my direction. I pulled out the old Silver Ballers but only managed to take out 2 before I succumbed to the rain of hot lead. Considering I managed to kill the security guard and hide his body without getting detected & nobody saw me take the shot how I got detected so quickly is beyond me & unfortunately it was the end of the allotted time so I couldn't even retry.

One thing that did piss me off a bit what how 47 could simply un-equip the sniper rifle and have it vanish. I, personally, prefer the Blood Money approach where only small weapons could be concealed. I hope this was just the case for the Demo & that in the full build or at higher difficulty this option wont exist.

On the other hand 47's new close quarter combat moved are a joy to watch even if you are subjected to a quick 1-2 quicktime event. I also saw another player go to town on pretty much everyone in the level with a knife, this all makes 47 look and feel much more lethal than in previous games.

Instinct vision also wasn't just "Detective vision" and considering its entirely optional I dont see it cheapening the experience for hardcore players.

All in all I feel confident that Hitman Absolution will see a welcome & long overdue return of Agent 47 in all his lethal glory.

Thank you so much :D

I am so looking forward to this...I keep looking at my Pre order hoping they move the release date forward :D

I also have it Pre-odered. I went for the Deluxe Professional Edition with the 10" vinyl 47. Can not wait for it.
