Far Cry 3 - I had Chills

After watching this video on Kotaku I deeply regret not queuing up to play this at Eurogamer.

I have to admit while iffy story does still concern me but the rest... WOW. Looks like the game Far Cry 2 promised to be.

I watched the video again, playing close attention to the story elements & watched a few of the other vids on FC3 and I have come to the conclusion that, much like the author of the Kotaku piece, the story is going to be the low point. Which, in my opinion, is a crying shame and a huge missed opportunity. From what I can gather the story is all about the journey Jason (I think thats the name of the protagonist) from College Dude to Ruthless killer - which sounds like an awesome Decent into the heart of Darkness type plot and considering the visceral & emotional story told by Spec Ops The Line I worry that FC is going to follow the age old line of Dude goes from scared shitless teen to running, gunning, knife throwing, shark punching in a single act & after wiping the blood of his thousandth victim off his machete he will be no worse, psychologically, than he was at the start. This makes me a little sad, I had really hoped that Spec Ops had finally shown how a game, and a shooter at that, can be used to tell a deep story.

Luckily the rest of FC3 looks plenty awesome.

Where did that happen? I know BioShock did that but what else?

With Vaas being introduced early as the baddy I dont see that happening.

Also in Doom 3, Far cry 1, I just remember playing far cry 1 and thinking, you got to be kidding me, Again?!? It seemed at the pointed every game was doing it.
