This week MyGaming is embarking on an epic journey along the road well-travelled; often remembered through the sepia-tinted goggles of nostalgia.

We are going to find out which classic games of yesteryear still have a special place in our gaming hearts.

To narrow down the list to 10 finalists we have been taking note of the most popular games mentioned in this discussion thread: MyGaming wants to know: what is your favourite game of all time?

MyGaming community members are asked to vote on their favourite game. The winner will be honoured in a special MyGaming feature article.

As if the happy gaming memories aren't reward enough, we also have a grand prize in store for one lucky MyGaming community member that casts their vote.

The competition starts now. Good luck and have fun!

Man I remember running into a room with a beholder and destroying my other 7 members of my party, some spell that made them leave my party and be perma gone biggest WTF moment in the game also only been able to beat the game once of my 9 play trough.

If I have to think of one game on this list, that I can just sit down and play any time and I'll be in the mood for it... Mass Effect 1, no contest.

I remember Shadows of Amn for its story. I played Shadows of Amn for months on end, doing everything there was to do.

And who can forget Minsk and his trusty hamster BOO. This stuff cracked me up back in the day.

Best part for me of the game was going into the sewers beneath Amn, finding a giant red dragon there and talking my way out of the fight for almost 20 minutes until the dragon decided to let me go.

While I enjoyed a lot of the games listed I have to say the one that made the biggest impression (something I'll never forget) is the original Half Life. It was just such an awesome experience and replaying the Black Mesa mod recently reminded me of how much I enjoyed the original experience. Also as far as some multiplayer experiences go we had so much fun in it (especially against others that couldn't use the long jump module lol) - anyone remember Killbox?

Although I voted Assasin's creed , my favourite game of all time has to be Metal Gear solid , I remember playing for the first time and saying man this games @#$^%%$ awesome .

Planescape: Torment wasn't on the list, so I had to settle for my second favourite of all time: Baldur's Gate II.

Guild wars, it was once very good game...everyday after classes i go home and play GW and no matter how bad i am in GW i still enjoy it.

Mass effect 1 was my choice... i dropped so many hours into that game im almost ashamed of it.

The one thing i miss from mass effect 1 was the world exploration in the mako, the scanning thing they brought out in the sequels was cool and quick to learn, but a lot less fun than cruising around dodging threshers and bandits in the mako or finding "abandoned" outposts while actually hunting for minerals and such

Those beholders absolutely destroying my party is exactly what I remember as well! I just walked through a door too fast, and with one shot I was decimated :( To this day, BG2 has the best written and executed story I've ever come across in a game. That's why it's my all time favourite.

WOW How can Metal Gear Solid not be on this list....???

I voted GTA3 because it was awesome driving around causing havok

From the list, I had to vote Half-Life. It made the biggest impression on me, played it when I was about 15/16 years old. It had all the elements of a great game, excellent story, good gameplay, graphics and sound for time and even some horror elements to it.

Rome Total war :D :D :D
My friend and i MONTHS playing this game, must have restarted it a million times trying to rule the world, but never managed. Cant wait for the new one

@ Xbox 360 comp picture: Isnt that the slim 4gb model :P?

BG2 for me :)

And when it was done and the explansion played...then there were all the mods that added extra NPC's, party members, items and all the rest.

Story was the best thing I've come accross to date...that and a damn great game mechanic...ahhh good times...good times.

Oh ya...First time walking in and reviving Kangaxx by mistake and being woefully ill equiped to deal with him...damn +5 weapons :) AWESOME!

Man, that was a hard choice, but I think I'll have to go with Mass Effect 1. What a game! ME1 was one of the very few games I played from start to finish without breaks or getting bored with it.

I picked Half Life 2 because I have fond memories of playing it at my friends house, making jokes about Dr.Breen and the combine. Those were some pretty great days :)

Playing Black Mesa now though, I realise how much I didn't understand when I first played HL 1 (because I was too young)

Assassins creed for me. Fell in love with the series since the first time I saw one of my friends playing it. It just had a unique feel compared to other games that I had played before it. Since then, they have made quite a lot of improvements to the graphics and gameplay and overall I am still very happy with the series.

I can't wait for the next one to come out. I think its going to provide me with quite a few hours of fun.

I had to go for Mass Effect. It's a shame that Diablo II or Fallout II or Planescape Torment or the Prince of Persia trilogy didn't make it. :) I will have to go read the other thread to see why not. Still some good games in the list and the Mass Effect games are some of the best games I've ever played.
