Free copy of Fallen Enchantress for disgruntled Elemental buyers: Stardock

Reading about Stardock always brings back pleasant memories for me. My attempt at setting the record straight around the failure-to-launch of Demigod was my first foray into video game blogging.

Demigod's didn't become the DotA alternative I hoped, Sins of a Solar Empire got Impulse's DRM, Impulse got sold to Gamestop, and Elemental tanked.

At least we still have each other, MyGaming.

And it is now sold on steam since Stardock don't have to worry about conflict of interest anymore.

There was (is?) very little difference between Impulse's DRM and Steam's. The issue was that Sins launched without *any* DRM to much fanfare.

Then Stardock insisted that patches needed to be downloaded through Impulse, with one of the patches pushing the Impulse DRM onto the game.

The counter argument at the time was that you didn't *have* to patch the game if you didn't want to (a benefit of Impulse over Steam), so the game was technically still DRM free. It was still scummy, though.
