Females in the gaming industry tackle sexism

Inb4 male gamers once again telling females how they should feel about sexism in the gaming industry.

"It's just a joke. Stop being so moody. Is it that time of the month? Go make me a sandwich, or I'll rape you. LOL LOL LOL LOL. Also, sexism isn't real, you feminazi."

All those female geeks who feel there got game, platform is open but know that the male species still dominates, BAZZINGA!!!!!!

Maybe it's the fact that I've recently decided not to spend any time deciphering poorly written posts, but this makes no sense.

“Because I got blank stares when I asked why a female soldier in a game I worked on looked like a porn star.”

Erm, I for one would like to know which game that would be, I am sick and tired of playing with other dudes(or avatars of dudes). When even my wife asks, "where is the girls?", you know you have entered the same grey area as Rugby, although without the sweat and touching and after game showers.

“Being told by punters on my stand at EGExpo they wanted to talk to someone ‘in marketing who knows the game”, not a “promo girl’.”
To be honest you can't really blame the person asking since 90% of the women there will just be promoters. Which of course is annoying and wrong in it's own way.

Most recently, I was persistently harassed on Twitter by somebody who’d decided I was too “f***ing ugly” to have opinions about anything, and that my 60K Gamerscore wasn’t good enough anyway. So I guess that’s my #1reasonwhy.
I just don't understand people like that, what is their goal in life. Are people so sad and lonely that they find entertainment in harassing other people. Never mind pirates, these are the kinds of people they should be kicked off the internet.

I don't disagree with the sentiments raised. Having never seen this type of stuff happen I can't really comment, but I believe the issue needs to be addressed with a much more holistic approach.

And this type of response, ladies and gents, sums up why the issue still exists.

IT IS ME GRAAL THE MOTHER FUCKER OF ASSUMPTIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol maybe I moved on, trying not to be a dick towards woman. Maybe some should do the same here

Put your money where your wallet is. Stop supporting kak.

I mean we can talk about it or do something, that something normally starts with yourself.

Forgive me, Prophet, if I assumed that, as in all previous articles of the same nature, you show an unwillingness to acknowledge or talk about these issues.

As with every social issue that has become ingrained in a certain culture, action starts with words. What use is it to boicott products if you don't tell the creators why you're doing so? Should I stop buying videogames with sexist undertones and simply hope the developer will be able to guess why I refuse to buy their product?

In many instances, people in the gaming industry are not even aware that there is an issue with sexism. It is pretty important that people talk about it so the issues can heard. Shutting up about it accomplishes absolutely nothing.

it's not the girl that must adapt, it's the guys that must stop being dicks about it.

Well if you take LoL's numbers (that game people made fun of for being "cute") shows the demographic of being 90% male with the other 10% being girls, or men pretending to be girls...

It's a male dominated past-time and everyone treats everyone else as a male which definitely isn't with respect and kindness.

Once a girl randomly steps in then the entire "atmosphere" changes, which is where the problems start. A regular girl player or players, not as much as a problem.

and do girls really like nice guys, aka white knights?

Maybe boy gamers don't know how to /talk girl

(just for laughs)

Okay... on a serious note now:

I've had many girlfriends up till now... and I've had to play down my interest in computers and games with every single one of them...
You could argue it's the type of girls I attract, or the girls I'm attracted to...
But even among my friends... and even acquaintances... must've been introduced to, or have spoken to over 1000 girls from when I was 16 to age 30 now.

How many of those girls had an interest in computer games? maybe 5?

and one of those is my sister who only plays tetris.
One girl messed around with her husband and I when we first hooked up Wii Sports. But she since lost interest after playing a handful of times
One girl who happens to be going out with a friend of mine is an avid gamer who plays console games more than 3 or 4 nights a week.
Two girl plays DotA 2 with their respective boyfriends... and I regularly play with them.

5 out of 1000... In my pigeon hole of society. Youngish professionals, who need medium levels of IT know how to do their work and so forth.

I'm all for gender equality... really I am... but why should I conceal my interest in gaming when I first meet an attractive girl? It's because the vast majority of girl's I've met see "playing games" as immature and "not sexy".

I couldn't give a toss anymore... but 3 or 4 years ago... DAMN!!! Girls would LAUGH if you said you enjoyed playing computer games. (same girls would phone you a few weeks later to fix their laptops because they couldn't get internet...)

This problem isn't going away my friends... The realm of computer games will remain hugely male dominated due to the stereotypes that exist around the culture.
Most pimply boy gamers aren't good with girls and will naturally try and "dominate" them in some sphere of existence in retaliation for the rejection they get in real life from members of the opposite sex??
Many "girlie" girls see computer games as "opposite to sexy" so they don't even contemplate ANYTHING to do with games. Including the boys/men who enjoy them.

It's changing slowly... very slowly...

can't expect miracles overnight. But it's up to "enlightened male gamers" to stick up for our prettier counterparts... and unfortunately, the girls among us will just have to be "the bigger person" and not get upset when stupid pricks display their inferiority complexes by being knobs. It's either that... or they're going to be eaten up by emotionally and socially immature little boys.

I apologize to all feminine gamers on behalf of all us MEN who love games and the women who play them.

Sorry

I'm not quite sure if I'm following your train of thought correctly, but how did we go from sexism in the gaming industry to sexual attraction?

I'm also trying to figure it out...

On another note, why would you treat a person on the internet according to their sex, and not according to their character?

No point in trying to follow my train of thought, because everyone will end up interpreting it differently anyways.

If the woman in that article had a huge sign, pointing towards her, that said: "Treat me as a professional, I'm the developer of this game! Oh and I'm married so don't hit on me"

Would she still be treated as clueless boothbabe? Because that's the stereotype that's formed if you don't have the adequate information about that individual in that scenario or what stage in life that individual is in.

Let me start off by saying I'm all for Women my closest friends with whom I game with can vouch for me. I play allot of FPS games and the amount girls of playing that genre is slim. I've only encountered one player who openly admitted she was a girl... A player called ( yourwife) in cod4 the rest are either to scared to admit they are girl or impersonate A man. Imo that's scary and I believe that's never going to change. Those of you who play FPS games online will know there is always the one cocky douche who calls everyone noob and what weapons to use etc. I myself have reported two players for harassing a poor girl. The amount of men who actually do that is also slim because most of them don't care.

Female gamer's should just accept the fact that sexism in the gaming community will always be there
