Some advice for new and newish players joining DoTa2

Yes it feels more arcady but you definitly cant make a comeback once you stuffed up. :)
Not if you playing against guys who know what they doing. I think I like HON because it is more the speed of the original DOTA which also has an arcady feel to it.

I dunno bru, the original dota feels exactly the same to me. The move speeds and everything is ported almost exactly to DotA 2. Maybe you should buy some boots for your heroes bru, haha! :P (Just kidding)

But to come back to the HoN vs DotA thing, I dunno hey... HoN just feels way easier as the heroes have such OP spells, and it's just not the same as what I'm looking for. DotA is definitely the one and only game in this genre for me. I might be a bit biased since DotA is the first game in it's genre and that over the years I have come to know and love it.

The only thing that pissed me off so much in this game is the matchmaking. And the Russians. Wow, you get some stubborn fscking people that play this game..my lawd. I was playing Sven the one game and my Russian counterparts decided Sven was best served in the suicide lane (bot) and that I should please buy wards and courier because Sven is, get this, "hard support". I Lol'd.

HoN constantly evolves, and get new content on a weekly, bi weekly basis. DOTA2 on the other hand, will always be DotA with minor tweaks. If you want something new and interesting, with smooth netcode, have cast ranges enabled by default, with lots of mod capabilities that allows the user to customize their game; HoN is the better option. Metagame constantly changes and is dynamic, doesn't give you much time to adapt.
Although Midwars is great for just playing casually and killing stuff.

If you hate change, well DOTA2 does a pretty good job at staying the same as it's DotA counterpart where new content is half a year affair. You can come back to it from a long absence and jump right in.

Dafuq is a hard support? Sven can handle suicide lane pretty easy as long as you have the jungle warded and a support to help you. Also since you are the carry in the lane you should buy the wards and not the support.

Pretty much sums it up for me :)

Hmm, I'll make sure not to choose you as my support when I play carry :P

PS. Support heroes are there to support. Buy wards, health potions, mana potions for the carry. When I play dazzle for instance, I buy everything for the carry. I once played a Dazzle bought absolutely no items that game except for boots. I was perma running and TP'ing around planting sentry and observer wards everywhere, TP'ing back to the team to heal etc. After winning almost all the teamfights and taking the raxxes, I had in excess of 6000 gold which I only then used to buy items. That was about 35 mins into the game. You don't really need lots of items when playing support. The main goal is to do just that, support.

If you expect the carry to buy wards in the beginning of the game, that's just nonsensical. I'd rather have the carry get his treads or whichever first than asking him to buy wards. "whistling:

I played HoN last year and I thought it was a pretty boring DotA clone with a really terrible community. Out of all the MOBAs I've played I've found the HoN community to be the absolute worst.

I'll be sticking to Dota 2.

But I want to be your babysitter!

I did some research and you are right, it's a support's job to buy wards (with money they dont really have lol). But I mean just think about it, if a carry gets most of the last hits, it's much easier for him to buy the wards, since then a support can save up a bit and buy something that will help the carry a lot, like assault cuirass or mekanism. Lets say Im playing Lich, and you are playing riki, I will dominate the lane by denying creeps and harassing enemies, while you have an easy farm. Now to make things even easier for you I can get a headdress early on which will make you stay on the lane longer, so it will be a very easy farm. With such an easy farm you will have more than enough gold to buy your items and wards! But of course it all depends how good the support is and if you last hit properly. I know you are right, but this game is like chess, you have to be creative and flexible when the situation calls for it.

Also here is a usefull article covering the basics of being a support http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/guide/a-full-support-guide-beginner-to-intermediate-2094#chapter13

Quick question.... How does the match making work? According to skill?

Of course not, the game has no idea how skilled you are :P

1. There are no brackets or skill-tiers. You are rated on a cotinuous scale, so you can think of it as a percentile rank from 1-100.

2. The tiers you know from the Replay-Filters are not used in MM.

3. Battle Points and Battle Level are not used in matchmaking.

4. Performance Bars are not used in matchmaking.

Haha what I meant was is there some kind of leveling up mechanic which let's you play with players you own level etc.

That is quite odd really considering that dota and dota-like games have a reputation for having a bad community. The so called pro players in particular. I just think it would have been nice.

So say for instance I want to be play with a group of friends is there some kind of private match feature? And how's the lag?

hahaha just hold on 1 second - Last night I was Sven in the hard lane with no wards AND I bought the courier!!!! LOL:eek:

Disagree with this, to be honest Dota 2 has the ablility of being fast, it just totally depends who you play with or who you pick.

Typically i would buy the couriers because no one else does, however if im going to jungle i wont buy one.

Generally pub matches people dont buy them.

BTW...
Dota 2 has released Timbersaw today.

Hahahaha!! That game bru...EISH!

@JP: Yeah dude, there is a leveling system. You get Battle Points after each game and that counts towards the experience towards leveling up. So the game takes it as, the more games you play, the more experienced you are and matchmakes you (supposedly) with equally skilled players.

@Pap: LOL, daai is 'n awesome role. As jy in die ander team is :P

What's nice about Dota 2 is it is both forgiving and punishing towards quitters. When you quit you get 5 minutes to join the match again, and if you don't you get placed in a lower priority pool in the matchmaking. Punishes those assholes who quit 5 minutes into a match.

(Queue people saying that this system is wrong and that HoN does it so much better. :p )
