and as you get to the bottom of the ladder and turn around that dude stands in front of you and turns into ash :eek:

I only played one other game where your character died at the end. Some sega game for the life of me I can't think of the name :p
 
Has to be Amnesia for me. The first hour is absolutely terrifying. Haven't been that stressed/tense while playing a game in a looong time. In fact, I have yet to go back after dying the first time. Before you start playing, make sure the lights are turned down and crank up the volume.

No AAA big budget game has scared me the way the games developed by independent/indie studios have scared the sh!t outta me lol. Is Amnesia: A machine for pigs out yet? Lemme check... Jan next year..
