My NEW Gaming PC... Finally

OK, So just purchased the MSI 7950 TwinFrozr3 384bit 3GB from Nemesis, waiting for it to arrive! Awesome...

That specific card has some amazing reviews, and it's easily overclock-able to beat any card in it's price range.

OK, so it's two days later and the card has gone from Carletonville to Johannesburg... damn... it was supposed to be overnight!!!!

So I will be lucky if I get it by tomorrow I guess..... :mad:
 
I am loving this rig... next items are SSD, new keyboard and mouse, and CPU liquid cooling (the CPU fan is DAMN loud...).

Yep, the thing is though, my DDR1333 is registering as 1066... I have now done a CPU Level up on the ASUS utilities, and it's at 1170, still slower than it should be.

Will continue to poke around, would really prefer to get a proper CPU cooler first...

If you're going to OC, this isn't always a bad thing. If the RAM was reading as 1333, the increased FSB from the CPU Level up will push the RAM clocks over 1333. If it goes too high, the RAM might not be able to handle it.

I checked the manual for the ASUS Rampage 2 Gene, the BIOS settings and options seems similar to mine on the P8P67 WS Revolution. Under the "Extreme Tweaker" tab, you should be able to change the "DRAM Frequency" options. This should help to get your correct speeds. You should notice that, if the CPU is OC'd, then the configuration options will change based on the value of the "BCLK Frequency".

I did try and up the RAM to 1333 before the CPU overclock, but then I get an error on POST saying that the DRAM frequency is incorrect. It only works when I set it to Auto, and then it auto-corrects to 1066...

Weird, I know...
 
That's very strange. Have you tried a Memtest with the RAM to make sure it's working 100%? Also, is the RAM on the QVL for the motherboard?
 
Irrespective of whether or not it is on the Vendor List, it should run at its rated speed.

When I used to overclock my Core2Duo, I would underclock my RAM by selecting DDR3-1066. Then increase my FSB until the DDR was back up to 1333. This way I overclock my CPU without my RAM.

Maybe you were playing with some settings and it got screwed up?

Is all of your RAM 1333? If one out of four sticks is 1066, then everything will default to that speed to prevent the PC from crashing.

Yep, they are all the exact same RAM with the same chipsets and everything, matched pairs.

The RAM is on the QVL, and the MB has MemOK, meaning any RAM will do, or something...
