Looking for good gaming headphones

Can anyone recommend good gaming headphones ?
Im looking for comfort ,
noise cancelling (I dont hear whats going elsewhere),
external noise suppression (elsewhere doesn't hear me),
good value for money, I dont want to need to buy another pair in a few months due to the headphones scratching due to loose wires etc.

Id like to hear what you guys use ?

G35's.... Nuff said.... Cheerio :)

BUT! You would want an opinion from our very own audiophile saint_dee ;)

Try steer away from gaming branded headphones. Audiophile headphones such as Sennheisers coupled with a decent sound card will provide far superior sound in games.

Have a look at the Xonar DX soundcard and a good pair of Sennheiser headphones (HD555, HD558) or Audio Technica AD700s.

I'm with Felony on this one.

I currently have Roccat Kaves and they are heavy, uncomfortable and even though the sound is great it actually hurts my head. I tried out some Sennheisers at a friend's place and I was impressed. They were light and the sound was just amazing. So much more comfortable than my Kaves.

A lot of people love the Roccat Kaves though so it's but my opinion. I would definitely go with the two Sennheiser headphones that Felony mentioned.

What is your budget and what game do you play?

IF you give us that i can point you in the right direction ?

One issue with the non-gaming headphones theory is that if you're playing MP, you'll probably be needing a mic, which hi-fi headphones won't have.

Well, your choice is going to depend on a lot of things:

Do you want "Virtual" Surround sound or Discrete?

Do you want it to connect over analog or Digital (USB)?

What's your budget?

Do you need a Boom Microphone for communication et al?

Only once we know the answer to that can we recommend something to you.

*Virtual VS Discrete: Virtual uses two Drivers (One in each ear) and creates the illusion of surround sound by using many different effects which are processed by the headset in real time. the Logitech G35 is an example of this.
Discrete: Uses more than two drivers (usually 8 for 5.1 surround - 4 in each ear) to create surround sound. the Roccat Kave is an example of this.
There will be people that argue for both sides of the Virtual/Discrete camp, and they both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Personally, I aim to pick up a pair of Kave's pretty soon because I prefer Analog connections to USB any day. plus, they look pretty cool and have a decent mic and soundstage.

I had Kaves, tested G35 and now own a cm storm sirus. The Kaves are awesome, mine lasted 2 years but broke at the cup. There is a weak Point there so beware. Treat them well and they should give you hours of joy. I prefer the Kaves over the G35. The Sirus gives you the option of usb or analogue. Get a xonar dg headset soundcard and go analogue. That is my choice if I had to make it. The souncard is around R350 now.

Logitech is awesome quality, but soundwise I prefer analogue above usb headsets for gaming.

Kaves is around R800
G35 arond R1000 if I am not mistaken
I got my Sirus set for R700 as new off Carbonite

Thanks for the Advice. All of my mates have the G35's and swear by them, but each to their own. primary reason for me not choosing one is its USB connection. USB means an Extra Driver to function... and a chance of driver failure etc etc. Analog is *almost* Guaranteed to work every time. I also hear it has issues with Teamspeak.

That thing with the Weak point isn't a Kave Exclusive. Just about Every Headphone on Earth has a weakpoint where the Cup joins the headband. My mate snapped his Turtle Beach (Think it was a Z6a) just by pulling the headset off too fast. It was at a LAN we were having just for fun, and loud cries of "OMG GUYS SWITCH ON THE LIGHTS, LIGHTS GUYS, GET THE F***ING LIGHTS" Quickly erupted.

So yeah, I guess you just gotta be careful with your stuff. Look after it, and it will look after you when you need it to perform.

No Problem: Analogue>USB(Digital) - my opinion. Let us know what you chose.

I used to be quite the same. I have a set of KAves with a Xonar 7.1 sound card.. ANd then I have the G930s ( basically wireless G35`s ) and to be honest i like my G930s more. Tehy comfy as Fuck you can lsiten to music while you are taking a dump and the positional audio is extremely good for emulated surround. And as for weakpoints, IF you see the logitech logo you know there is no such thing as breaking or a weakpoint :D .

its between the kaves and G35s .. KAves are very heavy but are true surround. Or emulated G35s.. Your choice, Id personally go on a comfort level between the 2

Yeah cranky... You bought wireless G35's so you can take a dump while listening to bony M :P

You guys and you're gaming headsets.
I gave up on gaming headsets, even my beloved G35's.

I've got a set of Pioneer HDJ2000's now and they absolutely spank any gaming headsets.
