Every working person in South Africa supports themselves and an average of three people, the SA Institute of Race Relations said on Monday.

A survey conducted by SAIRR showed that the general dependency had dropped among South Africans in the past 15 years, however Africans remained the racial group with the highest dependent average.

I don't support anyone, so I dunno where these okes got their stats from because it's wrong.
 
That's the interesting thing about averages :) I don't think that number sounds too far-fetched.
 
So apparently we all have 3 people to support... those are probably stats from just the poorer communities :rolleyes:

I think people in rural communities where there's one or two people formally employed in a family of like 15 makes up for the people in cities where two working parents support one or two kids, if that.

The title is in error. It should read "On average..." Not " Every".

"Every" implies that every single working person without exception has 3 dependents. Which of course is not the case.

Ya, the wording of the title was bugging me, but I tried to ignore it since the story does say "an average of three people"
 
I remember a statistic that said with all the government grants each tax payer basically supports 10 people.
