Workers at top global platinum miner Anglo American Platinum on Tuesday night refused to go underground after their employer warned it would axe 14,000 jobs in a major restructuring of its operations.

"We decided to stop the operations starting from tonight," said one workers' representative who led mass strikes last year, Gaddhafi Mdoda, adding that strikers would try to meet the company's management on Wednesday.

More strikes, more mines closed down, more job losses, more strikes because of the job losses........and so it starts again.
 
I actually heard one of them on the radio saying they'll strike till they have to shut down all the mines, and Anglo-American must go home now, they don't want them anymore.

So now apparently they want everyone to lose their jobs.
 
They're already talking about automation (even the farmers are), so when that happens, we'll have jammer lappie faces all over the place, followed by second industrial revolution, followed by more strikes and so on and so forth.
This country needs 2 things: Do away with mandatory union membership and/or reign in their power , or a complete overhaul of our retarded labor laws. Don't like the way things are at a company, piss right off and let someone else to the work.

They should also do away with Labor involvement like CCMA because they love bringing in the racial card aspect when someone is retrenched etc...

CCMA isn't bad, it should just be governed better because of people taking advantage of it

CCMA is clueless. We had a case where the guy had opened a truck full of clients goods on the side of the road and gave total strangers lifts, which is dismissal. So the CCMA said we shouldn't penalize the guy for being honest - because he admitted to doing it. (Only after being caught by one of our other managers).

yeah that's why I say it should be governed better. they do help the people that really got screwed over as well
