600x400

The truth hurts, my wallet too.

Many of us presumably know of the Hubble Deep Field image which was originally taken 17 years ago. Over the past decade they've worked to improve the quality of that image, and the final product was only recently released in September 2012. Not many know of it, so I present to you the Hubble Extreme Deep Field, the most sensitive astronomical image ever made:

Comparison with Ultra-Deep Field (from 2004)
Extra large image

Almost every point or smear of light is a galaxy. The image was taken by exposing the Hubble telescope to a minute, blank and featureless area in the sky, for a total time of 23 days. The image above reveals 75% more galaxies than the Hubble Ultra-Deep Field image, setting the new estimate on the number of galaxies in the observable universe to at least 176 billion. I won't be surprised if future, more sensitive images reveal at least a trillion.

Many of us won't look at the picture for more than a few seconds, but I urge you to examine it, and to consider what you're looking at. It's remarkable to live in a day and age where we can consider and fathom our insignificance in the cosmos.

Is it just me, or is right-clicking disabled on the MyGaming forum? Every time I want to view the large images, I have to press "reply with quote" and copy paste the image links into new tabs. Or, as I just found out, I can drag the image into a new tab. I think that right-clicking can be disabled in vBulletin, but can anyone confirm if that's the case? It's the most asinine "feature" to add to a forum.

No issues here. Right clicking works fine.

Hmm, strange. I've always been stuck with the problem on these forums (mouse-over dialogues also don't appear, such as when you hover your mouse over somebody's reputation), but I haven't experienced it anywhere else. Maybe something is clashing with my extensions. In any case, thanks for the feedback.
