Kalahari's "Save up to 40%" not even close to 40%

So I get an email from Kalahari with this in it:

I'm like: "Wow!! Up to 40% off? Must be the news of the new consoles driving prices down. :)"

So I click on the link and my first thought was... "Up to 40% off? Reeeeaaaaalllllly...... I dont think so...."

I sat down and actually did the math.

PS3 160GB Console + 1 x Dual Shock 3 Controller + Blu-ray Remote + Avengers 2D/3D Blu-ray + Iron Man 2 Blu-Ray = 7.3% Saving
PS3 320GB Console + 1 x Dual Shock 3 Controller + FIFA 13 = 10.4% Saving
PS3 500GB Console + 2 x Dual Shock Controllers + Gran Turismo 5 Academy Edition + Uncharted 3 GOTY = 5.84% Saving
Xbox 360 250GB Console + Halo 4 + 2 x Controllers + 3 Month Live Voucher = 6.7% Saving
Xbox 360 250GB Console + Fifa 13 + Forza 4 + Skyrim download token + 1 Month Xbox live Voucher + 1 x Wireless Controller = 4.46% Saving
Wii U 32GB Console Premium Pack Black + Zombi U Limited Edition = 5.87% Saving
Wii U 32GB Console Premium Pack Black + Nintendo Land = 7.1% Saving
Wii U 8GB Console Basic Pack White = 5.9% Saving

If I'm missing something please show me cause I don't understand why they're saying upt to 40% when it's only like up to 11%..... :wtf:
 
I think it's all just sneaky marketing tactics. An ad showing 40% will get a lot more traffic than one showing 11%

exactly, they cover themselves that way. so in the event that you go and take them on about it they can dismiss your complaints by stating they clearly said "up to" there by never promising 40% off on anything. they can issue any discount under 40% and still be in the clear
 
Will be interesting to see what is happening with this. None of those equate to 40%. Perhaps we can get Ramone back on the forum to do some talking for Kalahari.

AFAIK the Kalahari reps haven't been around for a while. I also noticed the exaggerated discount claims, I thought for a second I might be able to afford a console! :mad:
 
i think they are saying with the individual costs for all items being grouped together and discounted can be up to 40%. THink about it, controllers are R600, Blu Ray movies are R300. games can be R300-600. that's where the 40% comes in.

Yeah, they kind of left after rAge 2011 already. I think they are missing some serious activity by not being on the forum anymore.
 
Their new ad is up to 80%. Haven't checked to see what the prices are though. Maybe this time there will be games that are discounted by that much. :)
 
Maybe if you buy every single console you will end up having saved up to 40%? Either way it is dodgy advertising.
