Nvidia apologises to Tomb Raider PC players plagued by crashes

Graphics company Nvidia has apologised for a number of issues with Tomb Raider's PC version.

The "performance and stability issues" occur when GeForce GPU users attempt to run the game on maximum settings.

"Unfortunately, Nvidia didn't receive final game code until this past weekend which substantially decreased stability, image quality and performance over a build we were previously provided," spokesperson Andrew Burnes explained on the company's official site (thanks, Joystiq).

"We are working closely with Crystal Dynamics to address and resolve all game issues as quickly as possible. Please be advised that these issues cannot be completely resolved by an Nvidia driver. The developer will need to make code changes on their end to fix the issues on GeForce GPUs as well.

"In the meantime, we would like to apologise to GeForce users that are not able to have a great experience playing Tomb Raider, as they have come to expect with all of their favourite PC games."

At least they are working on it. Good news for AMD though. I already sold 2 AMD cards today because guys wanted to play Tomb Raider without crashes xD

I haven't had any crashes on mine thankfully. Had the odd glitch where for instance half the screen didn't render but that was quickly resolved by exiting and relaunching the game.

Apparently disabling tessellation is a (temp) fix for the crashing issue. (Read on Kotaku somewhere)

Just turn tessellation off. Been playing for hours on my 670, every thing set to 'ultimate' but with tessellation off.
Latest beta (.14) drivers.

You'd think they would find these things before release, doesn't the devs test their stuff on at least a few Geforce cards? As much as i'd like to blame Nvidia here, it is clearly something Crystal Dynamics didn't test for, unless Nvidia changed something between Testing and Release...

I rate it has to do with tessFX? That AMD tech for rendering realistic hair. Turn this off and will probably be fine.

at the end of the day it is still gaming code that gives all the issues. Look at TC GRFS @ v1.7 and AC III @ 1.03 - still have to down clock my GTX 570 to play it.

As a nvidia owner, I don't experience any issue with the 314.14 Beta driver.. Using a GTX660 Ti and I can max the game without issue.

What's your average framerate if you're maxing out the game on a single GTX660 Ti? Unless you're playing at 640x480 resolution....
