Sandy Hook killer a violent, calculating, insane gamer: report

What I don't get about these nutjobs is why none of them go down taking out the scum of the planet. It's always targeting schools/ the innocent. Either way it's scary what kind of people exist in society.

Why do they have say that this is the work of a gamer. What about his mom taking a mentally handicapped child to a gun range to play with assault rifles. Let's not forget he had some pretty serious mental defects against him and to say this is the work of a gamer is unfair.

As mentioned before this likely a string of events and pre conditions and to blame one factor is unfair.

“It’s why he didn’t want to be killed by law enforcement. In the code of a gamer, even a deranged gamer like this little bastard, if somebody else kills you, they get your points. They believe that’s why he killed himself.”

Dumbass, you lose points if you suicide not if an enemy kills you. Just shows that guy has no fuarking clue what he's talking about.

Don't know about the other FPS gamers here, but I certainly was not taught anything about tactical reloading or switching to my handgun when my strap breaks by games.

In fact, in the typical tactical shooter guns don't even jam. Imagine having to stop in the middle of a deathmatch to replace the strap on your AR15.

What a noob.

i think the cop has some mental issues going on himself. he's got some pretty wild fantasies going on. does he don a tin foil cap when no one is watching????

This will no doubt be an unpopular view on a gaming forum but I personally feel that these graphic games do indeed desensitise impressionable youth to death and killing.

Some will refer to porn not turning one into a rapist but there is no doubting it makes you yearn for a real shag. For some, the desire to act out their violent gaming feats in real life may be strong too.

I accept your logic however to place the blame solely at the feet of his hobby and because he is gamer is unfair and highly questionable. Gaming me have very well contributed to this incident but it is by no means the smoking gun in the room

I fail to see where they did? The first paragraph of the article says it "may have played a role".

I hear their complaints though. As someone who recently acquired an XBOX I've been on the lookout for games for my teenage son. I am far from being an expert on the games out there but so far I have come to realise that most of the popular titles have 18 restrictions and almost always for violence.

Even those without restrictions often contain violence but just without the gore. It is tough to find a decent game, outside of sport's games (which, unsurprisingly, are not popular with hardcore gamers), that does not revolve around fighting, killing or stealing.

Don't judge the games by their age restrictions, they are bullshit. Read up about the games and decide if the content of it is appropriate for your son. If he's mentally mature enough , go for it. If he's not , there are many awesome games out there like tekken or Spyro or whatever that are suitable for teenagers.

I understand that as a parent one is always over-protective of one's kids .If your kid can prove he's mature and responsible, you don't have to be afraid for him.

Well that in itself is reason for the authorities to voice their concerns about the gaming industry. An industry that is under fire for the amount of violence present should really ensure that they certify their games accurately.

I am uncertain how one ascertains whether their child is mentally mature enough to constantly play violent games and not be affected by it on in some way? It would be interesting to find out whether many of these mass murderers parents ever suspected that they were capable of such acts.

Please note, I am not saying violent games are solely to blame but I suspect they may play a part. Hell, I'm an adult and play racing games, sometimes, just sometimes, when driving you think to yourself "ooh, I wonder if I can slide my car around the corner like I do in XYZ game"....

Point clearly missed I see. I'd rather not say anything else.

Pity that. If you feel so strongly that there is no problem with the excess violence in games then I'd be interested in hearing you state your reasons for this.

Whether the age restrictions are BS (as you put it) or not, this is for some folk the only yardstick they use.

I'm not convinced that regardless of whether a child is mature and responsible enough (not sure how you measure that - Clints question), they should have to deal with many of the 'mature' themes in certain games.

Help us understand what you are trying to say, this is a very relevant discussion.
