Largest Ram per stick?

Dakka Dakka
I'm looking to push up my PC's ram amount for 3D modeling.

Currently i have 2x 4GB sticks, not sure what the max number of slots my motherboard allows but i'm hoping to get my Ram value up into the 20's to handle the memory heavy 3D applications.

Ram is cheap these days, any recommendations?

What board and chip are you running mate?

I'll check the board when i get home (any way to check it without opening the case?),I think it's a ASUS P8P67 Pro but i will have to double check.

Chip as in CPU?,i7-2600K,

I know you can get 8gb chips, so it should put you up to 32gb 4X8.
Which gpu you running, the gpu memory helps quite a bit with speeding it up as well

Ok your board supports upto 32GB.
So your forced to go with 8GB modules.

Ram isn't as cheap as you think though, prices have gone through the roof lately an stock is quite low.

About an hour too slow there Joker :P

DC for now just get the one 8gb, it should bring you right up to a much more noticeable speed boost without going too costly. I presume you are running 1333 in there, check prices of the 1600 memory, think you may find some specials with Easter coming up.

4x4 should be enough with an ssd :P

32 gb is just overkill?

Not really,it's ideal actually. It's reccomended to at least have twice the amount of ram that the render needs.Baking fluid sims at 250 frames at 400res takes 6GB's and 3-6 hours of baking time.

Yeah lol I got a bit busy :( Such is life lol.
No stock of G.Skill anywhere, only stock really available is Corsair which over priced pieces of crap lol xD

On a related note, prices of higher-frequency RAM for some brands seem to have stayed the same. I can still find DDR3-2133 kits at the same price they were a month ago, but it's an exception to the rule. Kingston's DDR3-1866 modules seem to have stayed at the same price as well, dropping in some cases on a few online retailers.

I disagree with that comment :)

Well that's your personal preference but do yourself a favor and ask any of the serious overclockers what ram they use and they will all tell you they either use G.Skill or Samsung super ram. Corsair products are overpriced, although I like the look of the platinum's, the price is just crazy.

Like I said bud, To each their own.
I prefer certain brands, I deal with this stuff on a daily basis.
I have clients that want the absolute best (R100 000+) gaming set ups.

What is the point of R100 000 gaming setup?

Do they want to run the game on 16 screens?

If you can afford it wouldn't you want it?
I'll take a photo when I am my clients place again, you've never seen a gaming set up like it.

I prefer to get something small and then make it look awesome through mods. No need for something so big.
