EA wins "Worst Company in America" Golden Poo award, again

I just had laugh at this xD

I'm on EA's side with this. Its just goes to show how inexplicably thick the American public is and how warped peoples priorities have become.

It’s absolutely pathetic how America is run by whinny annoying teenage girls. Like that letter said there are greater evils out there than some madden game cover or DRM.
Essentially what they are saying with this award is that the safety of people’s lives, the protection of the natural environment and not allowing banks to sell ypu into debt so they can later auction off your house is less important than some kids experience over a poor ending in a video game.
I don’t mind attacking EA when they stuff up but this, you’re basically saying its ok to screw my health, steal my house and bankrupt me or even kill me but don’t you dare sell me a game that’s not perfect. Get your priorities in order America, seriously this is pathetic, I hope your ashamed of yourself.

If it was for a specific category I'd agree, but now over all. Let me guess, this poll was online? Because that would explain the outcome. Bankers and people concerned about oil companies and their impact on a company do not roam the interwebs looking for polls/votes...

I think more to do with the consumers that the companies focus. On EA is a digital company so its expected to have a lot of focus on them. Plus the amount of bad press they had its not too surprising, but it would be good to see other companies that fall out side of surveys scope.

This could well have been a focus survey!

It was a one on one knock out event, 20 companies go in and then get matched to another victim down to 10 and so on till it was EA vs BoA.
Votes by kids on the internet do not equal a true economical decision on who sucks, this was more of a popularity contest by which customer base can out-voice everyone else thus why EA lost.

I'm also siding with EA on this one. Maybe there should be a more specific category for this, like the "America's worse video game publisher" or something along those lines?

So their response is to insult the Consumerist as well as gamers who paid for Mass Effect 3 and weren't satisfied with the ending? Holy shit.

Let the butthurt flow, EA. Let it flow.

What I think many of you are missing is that this 'reward' is worthless, in the larger scope of things. It's essentially just there to mock a company you don't like. It's a little slap on the wrist for the company, and that's that.

Sure, there are much worse companies in America, but how badly does a consumer-voted award for being a terrible company (that will be forgotten within a week anyway) reflect on a company such as the bank of America? It's a tiny little spot on a gigantic page. For a company like EA, it's a giant inkblot. I think this comment from the Dorkly page sums it up rather well:

See, the thing is, BoA and many others have won the award before. Guess what, they didn't give a single shit. It's just an internet poll. You know who DOES give a shit? EA. As clearly seen by their "apologies". BoA winning wouldn't change shit. At least there is a SMALL chance EA will do something now that they've won.

The very fact that EA responded so poorly is indicative of how much this bothers them.

I agree. "Worst Videogames Company" in America for such and such reasons.

Look I don't even necessarily like EA (I simply voted with my wallet after the last debacle), but why would it bother them? It's so completely non indicative of the worst company in America it's not even funny. It's a joke actually. It's also called a Golden Poo.

Fine maybe it won't be a blot on any companies radar but still let's look at this whole thing in perspective. We have companies out there that are actually the community and then we have EA who released some really great products with some small aspect that annoyed some people and now its everyone's problem.

We have companies out there that are causing serious damage out there and instead of spending 2 weeks dragging their name through the mud we are focussing on a couple days of server issues and a gamer cover over the lives of innocent families.

If you can walk up to family that lost everything at the hands of a bank that they trusted and say stop bitching I waited half an hour to connect to server, then by all means parade down streets saying this survey was a success. However I strongly believe there are bigger evils that deserve to have their name dragged through the mud for the 2 weeks of this tending topic.

It shows that they pissed off enough consumers to be voted into that position in the first place. For a company like EA, consumer satisfaction should be relatively important.

Okay, suppose the BoA got voted worst company of America. What then? Do you think that would change those peoples' lives? Do you think the BoA would even give a shit? No, they wouldn't. Nobody is saying the BoA isn't guilty, but they're not going to change. They don't have to because their consumer base is too large. EA, on the other hand, doesn't have a fraction of the consumers the bank of America has. Something like this hits them a lot harder. They might just change.

So in the end, nobody says people who got screwed over by the BoA do not deserve pity, but the outcome of a small online poll is not going to change their lives or the BoA. It's just a poll, at the end of the day, not some kind of fine or punishment.

It absolutely should be - no doubt about it. I've fired off my share vitriol against publishers like them for years - I have no allegiance to EA whatsoever, but like Ike says.. companies like companies like Wallmart, Goldman Sachs - those should be making the headlines for these kinds of "awards".
