Company of Heroes 2 Beta Keys Available

Once you 'learn' how CoH2 works it's actually pretty easy not to suck at them. I generally suck at most RTS games, but I think the easy presentation of units and them forcing you to focus on individual units instead of big armies makes it a lot easier than most RTS games.

A single well-managed unit could change the entire tide of a battle. Say your enemy is pounding you with artillery while their infantry keeps you to busy to do anything about it, you can just sneak a single half track with flame weapons around their army and burn out the infantry using the artillery weapons, thus changing the entire tide of battle.

I highly suggest you at least give it a try. It's really one of the best RTS games this decade.

I may consider it in future. For now - I've still too much on my figurative plate.

Consider my ASS :P I'll see if I can get you a free Company of heroes Tales of valor steam key. ( A polish site gave them away to THOUSHANDS of people through their Mag and Email) I won one using Steamgifts. I'm sure I'll find SOMETHING :)

So you want me to play an RTS with you. I will... It's just... I don't want to. Could be fun.:)

Well, he doesn't necessarily need to play Tales of Valor, unless he wants to play the campaign. The CoH beta is basically the full game (with bugs being ironed out) without the campaign. You can play both online and skirmish.

I'll only play, if I'm playing with somebody - but, even then, I'll be reluctant to play. It's just not my cuppa tea.

Well Tales of valor is a GAME not a beta.... But alas I can't find anything.

@Saint well I didn't like RPG's but I learned to love them ;)

The only Real-Time Strategy game I played was C&C: Red Alert, I think it was. I was owned in less than 10mins. 2nd playthrough the same. It requires you to think 10 moves ahead sometimes. Playing games mustn't feel like a chore; I want to have fun.

I got my beta key and will start download soon, I am on capped so might wait till the weekend when I will have access to uncapped.

Well obviously losing 2 games isn't going to "convince" you to like the genre. I say give ANOTHER RTS a try. If you don't that's fine :p btw have you tried a MOBA game? ( Example DotA or LoL ?)

Point taken.
I have DotA in Steam. Haven't started the download yet however. Soon :)

Trust me, you can't match games from that era with current-gen games. Those older games (especially the older C&C games) were absolutely brutal in difficulty. I personally couldn't finish the campaigns in either RA1 or Tiberian Sun simply because they were so brutal. People laugh at me, but I also barely managed to beat normal difficulty enemies in Starcraft 1. They were just too difficult.

You should try something a bit more modern. Some of them take a bit of learning to get into, but once you're over the initial hump it's actually rather fun. In general I kinda suck at RTS games online, but when playing Command and Conquer 3 I can actually hold my own pretty well. It's really satisfying winning in a match against another player, especially because you know it was your superior tactics that won you the match (well, most of the time).

Well before you do I'd like to recommend League of legends. ( I'm not starting a war of what game is better and all that shiz)

-It has a faster pace compared to DotA

-IMO the hero's are better

-Unfortunately LoL has a Cartoony graphics style in the look's section DotA wins

-Another con is that you ACTUALLY have to "grind" to unlock hero's ( you get 10 hero's free each week that rotate) were as Dota gives you all the hero's and you pay for the cosmetics. Just to give you an idea every game won in LoL gives you about ~100 IP ( currency used to buy hero's the most expensive hero's are 6300)

-More variety of maps ( DotA only has one.)

-DotA is WAY more complicated than LoL ( which isn't really bad but for a noob the hero's in LoL are perfect)

I'm probably going to get flamed for this post :wtf: but bare in mind I haven't clocked in a thousand hours of DotA so I can't comment on EVERYTHING and all this is based on first impressions. Would be better to hear a seasoned DotA player's comment.

Your opinion has swung me into giving an RTS a shot.

I don't much care for outstanding and beautifully looking graphics - it's just a bonus. I play Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and that game isn't graphically breathtaking, but, it's colourful and very fun to play.

Is LoL an FTP? Otherwise, what other RTS games are FTP?

Indeed it is FTP... Uhm... Of the head I can't think of any good FTP RTS games... Except if you're into browser based games :wtf:

I downloaded the beta and played the single player mission for about 15 minutes. I must say I was very very impressed. It will definitely be a priority purchase for me.
Feels a lot like the first one with some changes, kind of like a Starcraft 1 and 2 comparison.

I'm really glad they didn't change too much of the original.
