Nearly two tons of dagga were seized by KwaZulu-Natal police in April in operations conducted on the South Africa-Lesotho border, police said on Thursday.

The 1890kg of dagga, worth an estimated R3.8 million, was seized from donkey trains travelling over the Ntonjelane Pass between South Africa and Lesotho, said Colonel Vincent Mdunge.

"The operation covered the Upper Tugela, Winterton, Bergville, Giant Castle Pass and Mooi River."

Tons is still correct for informal usage like "Man I had tons of work to do this week." :)

I wonder what it would've been priced if it were coke or heroin - substantially more, no doubt.

I always wonder if there are any tempted to stand down wind of the fire when they destroy it :D
