What movie did you last watch thread.

Ok, so to get back to the series of movies I watched last week :

Iron man 3 :
- This has got to be the most disappointing movie this year. After a discussion about it with a friend, we came to the conclusion that it doesn't live up to the hype. The movie itself was indeed a top-class superhero movie ( just like all the Marvel movies lately ) , with superb acting, visuals, and dialogue. Robert Downey Jr doesn't disappoint, any movie with him in it is worth watching. But the story is where it falls short. It's the same cliche crap over and over again. They way it's done is great, I can give it that, but I'm getting a bit tired of seeing the same storyline over and over and over again where the good guys win at the end . It's boring. This is in stark contrast to the Dark Knight (2008) .

Rambo 4 :
- If you judge this by how good the movie was , it's a very bad movie. Everything from dialogue, acting and music is bad. The story and dialogue are filled with cliches, and acting is not up to standard at all ( save Stallone's performance ) . But the A-grade action is where the movie delivers. You got a hardened band of mercenaries fighting alongside John Rambo himself ( the retired, war-hardened, hardcore US special forces guy ) , killing hundreds Tatmadaw ( kind of a military organization of Burma , opposing the nation's democracy movement ) with knives, claymores, grenades, bows, guns, and the little M2 .50 cal treat at the end , so all the good stuff. The movie is very violent, you will see people getting shredded to bits, torn to pieces by shrapnel, dismembered, and shot everywhere. If you are a fan of action movies, this is a must watch.

Full Metal Jacket :
- A Nam war film. This is a really unique film, following a platoon of us marines ( yeah, like always, marines, coz normal soldiers don't exist ) through the Tet offensive ( when the gooks launched a set of surprise attacks on US and SV command bases all throughout south vietnam during a cease fire agreement ) and shows the cruelty of the Nam war ( kind of like Apocalypse Now ) . What makes it unique is that it doesn't just show the combat, but the boot camp training beforehand. You see recruits struggling, in despair, broken down by their DI, only to be build up again to become real soldiers. You will see how the soldiers felt there, mentally broken down by the horrors they saw, not knowing what they are fighting for. It doesn't have a storyline, however the acting is superb. Lastly, the elements of violence mixed with anxiety and tension create a deep atmosphere that will definitely not leave you sitting passively on your chair.

Snitch :
- If you've watched Lawless(2012) you will know what I'm talking about.
"Grim, bloody, and utterly flawed, Lawless doesn't quite achieve the epic status it strains for, but it's too beautifully filmed and powerfully acted to dismiss."
This pretty much sums it up. Snitch is a good movie - but as the quote says it tries to be this grand drama, and fails. The plot is a bit unclear, and felt a bit rushed. Music scores are also a bit overused, supposedly to create tension/make you feel emotional, but I found it to be irritating more than anything else. Dwayne delivers a rock solid performance ( see what I did there? ) , like always. It was very weird seeing him get beat up, he's usually this huge guy who kicks everyone else's ass. Anyway it's worth a watch nonetheless, but it will definitely struggle to hold its own against other excellent crime dramas like eastern promises , the town, training day, drive all I can think out of my head now.

There is like 10 others I watched last week but don't have all day to write stuff about them.

Just finished watching Idle Hands, perfect day time movie to watch with a blanket and the rain outside. Tonight the Indiana Jones fest begins :) looking forward to that

Just watched The Departed, Blood Diamond ( again ) and Three Kings.

Gotta give it to Leonardo, f***ing excellent actor. All of the above movies haven't disappointed, except maybe Blood Diamond which wasn't on the same standard as the other two.

I highly recommend The Departed, and if you are in the mood for a funny war film ( more satirical if you ask me ) watch Three Kings.

Watch Side Effects if you want a good thriller.

Watch Flight for an excellent drama ( with some good laughs in between :) ) .

watched Jack the Giant Slayer last night (was a bit meh), followed by Fight Club 10th Anniversary Edition

watched a B grade Movie, breaking the Girls with Madeline zima and shawn ashmore, wasnt too bad imo

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Warm Bodies was surprisingly funny. Imho Zombie movies > Glitter boi vamp fliks.

Looper. I quite liked it. Even though some people criticized the effects used, I was quite taken aback at how they made Joseph Gordon-Levitt look like a young Bruce Willis. Even though he looked nothing like that when he was young. :D

Loved that movie, but the time travelling there didn't make any sense :P.

The whole concept was awesome, but wasn't thought out properly ( cant blame the writers tho, they were probably as confused as we are with the whole time travel thing ).

I watched spiderman 4 in 3d on my 3d tv and loved the 3d effects and the movie too compared to the last spiderman movies.

Goodfellas...excellent movie. Recommend for anyone who is into crime dramas.

What really shocked me is how they show the good gangster life in the beginning, having everything : girls, money, cars, big houses, respect and taking anything you want without paying the consequences. Then it all comes crashing down when they start whacking each other one by one, until nothing nobody is left. They take lives in a flash of a second so to say, without thinking twice. And that really really was a surprise.

Watched Chronicle.
At first the camera effects bothered me and wanted to stop watching. But it really adds to the movie and you barely even notice it later on as be gets better at controlling the camera. Quite a good movie in the end:)

Watched the Great Gatsby on Thursday. Very good movie, but even though I never read the book, it feels slightly rushed and trimmed down to fit in its 2 and a half hour span.

Saw Side Effects last night, also a very good film, excellent performances by Jude Law and Rooney Mara making for a very impressive psychological thriller.

Sunshine (2007). Pretty decent sci-fi. Bunch of astronauts have to fly to the sun to try and create a new star because the sun is dying.Definitely worth a watch.
