Shopping for a wireless device - n00b style

So over the weekend I found out that I am a complete idiot when buying computer hardware. I have recently installed a swanky new wireless network in my house. I connected the Internet to it and everything was flying. That was until over the weekend I decided to go totally wireless.

So going out to find myself a wireless extension card for my PC, I went and bought a nice looking wireless card, with all the bells and whistles. I raced home to install the card, only to find out that my n00bness caused me to buy a PCI card, but my motherboard only has PCI-E ports...EPIC FAIL

So I'm sitting with a TRENDnet TEW-658brm wireless PCI card, useless to me. Hopefully I can exchange this for something more useful.

not sure why you went for the pci card when you could have got the TP-Link 300 mbps usb wireless device which will work on anything you want, I paid under R300 for it.

Like with everything in life you experience these things my friend. Next time you want to buy a piece of hardware, just check the Hardware section for a pre-existing thread for it, if its not here make a new one! Ask for advice, plenty guys here that are willing to give a hand :) I just hope you didnt buy it from PC Zone, they can be sticky about returns : \

or Matrix warehouse they just as worse :D rather go to Incredible Corruption or go online :p

Hehe, the last time I upgraded....got home the evening with all my components ready to put everything together. I could not wait so I jumped right in, taking my time installing mobo, cpu etc. Eventually I got to the DVD writer (old IDE) and found myself looking for a place to plug it in :( Turned out the last thing I thought of when shopping for new components was a new drive that supports SATA - LOL

Not sure but I think you can buy a Sata to IDE cable for that :D.

Something like this

Found it here, only R38 instead of buying a new drive

Yes it was a lesson that had to be learned, and so I have. Luckily I bought it at Incredible Connection, and was able to swap it for a USB one. At least I know that my PC has a USB port :p and yeah I'll be spending more time in the forum first before buying.
