Kerbal Space Program - Share your Experiences and Knowledge

This guy seems to have quite a few KSP videos. This one talks about his top ten favourite mods.

On a Side note.
Guys I wanna start a community Space station SAKISS (South African Kerbal International Space Station).
Everyone can contribute and everyone can Download them and use them to build your own.

Rules/Rquirements:-

1.All parts have to be part of the standard build, NO MODS at all!

2.All Ships/ Joints that connect, have to be Orbital and has to have enough fuel incase you mess up a rendezvous (i.e. Your craft should be able to get into orbit and dock, so Docking ports, big or small has to be connected)

3. Do not Use parts that has known bugs, below is a list:-
V0.20 - PPD-12 Cupola Module -
Cupola.PNG
(There is a bug where you cannot dock correctly with this part, will find workaround in the meanwhile)

4.Ensure that your craft has enough power and Solar panels to support going into the darkside with all lights on.

5. Name your ships/Craft/Satellites correctly, Use NickName + Ship name . E.G. ArchieChoke - Voyager

So its worth the $22. In that case I think I will get it once I get a new monitor for home. Seems like a really interesting and fun take on a Sim!

Count me in!! So how do we join this community?

So far I can launch satellites easily into orbit, I can maintain a parking orbit around Kerbin, and I can go to Mun. Haven't been back from Mun yet. Always seem to run out of fuel.

I would say so, got 70 hours in a matter of 2 weeks i think. Its dam addictive.

Awsum, well what I generally do is get setup with an upload service e.g. Dropbox, for making uploading easy.

I found this really awsum dude giving tutorials on youtube will post his link, the reason you run out of fuel could be because you are doing a burn at your AP not EP.

Ill paste a link of the first part of the build.

I had a look on Youtube at some of Scott Manley's stuff. Seems that they will help. I do indeed do my burn from AP once I'm in parking orbit, but that's just to get my first encounter within Mun's SOI. Bigger rockets is also a possibility I'm thinking of.

I see that a few of my Steam tjommies playing this game.
After checking a few of this guy's YT videos, it kinda got me in the mood to buy it, it looks quite interesting.

Fuck that was funny.

I might just buy this. Will wait till payday though

I decided to rape my CC again yesterday, and bought it.
Only started playing it today though, it does take a bit of trial and error (or in my case, alot of trial and error) but it is quite fun.

I am busy downloading the demo now. How big is the full game?

I laughed so hard while watching that video. That guy is priceless. Even typing this now has me giggling like a little school girl.

The games only about 450MB so not big at all. This is a very addictive game. Trying my best to get a bloody pod into orbit to practice some docking, but it difficult.

I could have sworn that my dl was just over 1gb.
I am actually watching those vids again, trying to get some tips.

The videos help yes. I watch a whole bunch of them, and still I can't get the docking right. This game is difficult!!! If you can dock correctly, let us know what we're doing wrong.

You are way ahead of me on that one, I am still trying to figure out a decent fit to space pilot with :)
But if I get to docking, I will be sure to share it here as well.

Ok finally after many many hours of youtube vids and practice I got it.

Sometimes you think you are doing something wrong but you are not.
Assuming you can get into orbit, this is what it took for me to get it right.

Let's call the ship in orbit A, the rocket you are using to dock with is B.
Get into a lower orbit than the ship you wish to dock with. "A" being in a orbit of 200,000 (AP) , "B" 100,00 (AP)
Remember these icons on your nav ball:-

Good to use this icon when you perform a maneuver at an intersecting point (try keep the intersect at under 75km at the start of your first attempt, later it will get smaller) , you use this icon as Zeroing out your speed (relative to the other ship).

Good to use this icon when you have performed the above, this makes you go towards the target, dont worry if you are moving away from the target, it all pays out in the end. the whole point is to keep on doing these two consistently till the intercept point becomes lower.

Then when you are right next to each other, you may use those famous:-
"H" key is towards the target
"J" key is away from the target.

Great Job. I am getting there. So I have two space crafts with docking ports in orbit, the second one (Craft B) a mere +-10000m below the other (Craft A) with a decline plane of 0.3 degrees. Now my two ships are almost a quarter of Kerbal apart from each other, with my second craft, Craft B, being behid. Both traveling at almost exactly the same speed. So how do I rendezvous the two from here?Kerbal Space Program screen 1.jpg

Thanks man what a mission.
Give me another screen shot, this time with your nav ball up, and set your orbit to Target right above the nav ball.

Not sure if this will help. Orbit of ship two is about +-5000m below orbit of ship 1 at AP. Speeds are matched. Ship is pointing in prograde direction. Target set on ship one, but intersect one and two are about 900Km away from target position at intersect 1 and 2.

Tjo 900 km big problems, going to have to drop out of its orbit and start again, I think when you were matching speeds you didnt go towards target after it, make sure you do that part.

So for some reason, after I let time pasted, I noticed that the target decreases with each pass. So after some odd passes, this is the latest situation...

Two thing I didn't consider:

1. Any speed difference will let one ship catch the other one
2. Speed differs as you move from apoapsis and periapsis. This caused the ships to catch up to each other. So I'm gonna see if I can dock these bastards and will post pics of my success/failure

Nice observation, will keep that in mind.
