Those hoses are really easy to undo, we actually teach new divers to unclip and reconnect their low pressure hoses underwater so its really basic and easy. They also don't bubble because then its easier to work with and less likely to stress a diver. I don't see them changing the design because it works well so I can't see a change unless it's something groundbreaking.
Another interesting fact, SEAL divers use high oxygen levels in their rebreathers so they are normally limited to 6m to prevent Oxygen toxicity. However if they go deeper they need a larger closed circuit system which is bulkier.
