Gaming Laptop

Hey guys

So I'm looking to buy a laptop but that will also be able to play current and new games such as GTA5 and Watch Dogs.
I know the best option for gaming is a PC but I need to get a laptop and my current PC is old (C2D), so thought I'll get a laptop that I can work and play on.
My budget is around the R15k mark, I've been reading a lot and my best options around this price mark seems to be the MSI GX60, but the new hitman edition that has a better CPU than the previous one or the Samsung NP700 but it is a bit more expensive.
I know it is not a good time to buy with the exchange rate so might wait a month or two, I know there is also the issue of Haswell that might bring down prices?

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Just whatever you do...don't get an ASUS G60VX like I did :(

Hopefully other people here will point you in the right direction

I would go for Acer or Dell if you want a great laptop which will last for many years.

I still play the current games on high settings with my acer laptop I spent 18k on 4 years back.

Why aren't you happy with the G60? Didn't meet your expectations?

I know that it is difficult to get a pure gaming laptop for R15k but both the MSI and Samsung has a 6970M, which is not bad. For me it's just about getting the right balance between price and performance.

It is decent for the price but it can't handle the newer games.

What are you looking for exactly PlainStack?
Screen size?
Is this a complete desktop replacement?
Does battery life matter?
Styling important or not as much?
Touch screen?
What OS win 8 or win 7?

Short Answer: Yes.

Long Answer: Yes, but you'll have to settle with med/low settings as time passes. Depending on the screen size and if you want to play fullscreen. Rather buy a El Cheapo GIGABYTE Q2005 for R2700 for work and spend the rest on a desktop. For R15k you going to get 8GB's of RAM, core i5/7 maybe a SSD but you'll get mid range graphics power.

have a look at the Mecer Expression W370ET

pretty decent specs

Dafuq? When I clicked the link I though it was a advert from 1991!

While thats a awesome laptop for it's price I don't think the OP will get the performance he is expecting from a GT 630. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-630M.63761.0.html

I was looking at the wrong laptop :/ my bad!

Maybe with me working for the company im a little jaded, but if i were goin to buy a gaming laptop I would only ever buy a Asus. The G-series round is the best out there in performance, looks, extra gear and service.

I got to work extensively on the gaming laptop products and man i wouldnt settle for less

I have never been a fan of Mecer notebooks...

Go to a store that has a G-series notebook and see for yourself or even phone asus and ask if u could come see the notebook, they might be able to do a little demo for u.

But i guess it also comes down to the wallet, how much u looking to spend?

Screen size I'm fine with 15, battery life doesn't really matter as it'll be plugged in most of the time. It will be a complete desktop replacement in time as my desktop is really starting to feel the age and I don't want a touch screen. Os doesn't really matter.

@Korn The GPU on that laptop is a bit on the low side, looking for at least a 660M.

Yes ASUS seems very good but they are over priced, it seems as if there is better or same spec laptops out there at a better price. Looking to spend about R15k but can push to 17 if it will really be worth it.

here is a better link spec the Mecer Expression W370ET to your liking:

But if you prefer walking in a store and buying it then computermania is your best bet :)

Something which really makes it stand out 17.3" full HD screen, takes 2 drives and GTX-660M graphics card with has a dedicated button to switch inbetween graphics card and onboard graphics
I've been looking at that laptop and it looks good but how does it compare against my two choices. The MSI and Samsung? I've heard a lot of good about Clevo international, who makes the W370ET.

Check the Mecer http://www.laptopdirect.co.za/laptop_specifications.php?laptop=64250

Pretty much customize the thing to tailor your needs.
Quick spec I did was:
Win 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
i7-3630QM
256GB SSD
12gb Ram
And it comes built in with the 660M GPU

Priced at R15625

The review is the Schenker but it is the same Clevo skeleton.

If you can push to 17k you can try to go for an A-kill Laptop. I dunno how could their customer service is but you can boost the specs

Check out their laptop builder here: http://www.akill.net/index.php?route=product/category&path=18_45

Also based on the Clevo but the P170em skeleton.

Notebookcheck for the skeleton http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Clevo-P170EM-Notebook.73442.0.html

Lastly check out the AKill 1762 model. Also Clevo skeleton but you can get i7 and 670M for 15k without and SSD.

The MSI laptops are nice but the AMD version of the 60 bottlenecks because of the CPU.

I paid around or less R6000 for my Asus G60vx a few years ago. iGame.Admin is pointing in the right direction, search ebay and stuff and you might come across some good deals :)
