Father's day

Yeah, it's buggers like you I warn my daughters against :)
No, seriously.

We had a nice day at home today. Wife cooked us a traditional "boere" cooked lunch (stew, pumpkin, rice, etc). My 7 yo gave me a lightbulb torch keychain ("So you can find the car in the dark, Daddy"). The older kids gave me assorted sweets while the wife gave me a huge bag of biltong.

We spend the day watching "Sucker Punch" and "Wolwedans in die Skemer" and just ended up doing more commentary on both movies then actually watching.

Brilliant day.

You probably a son-in-laws worst nightmare so wouldn't date your daughter anyway if you had one :D.

I like kind and loving father figures which are stern enough and not overboard.

You should get to know me better...

I'm every girlfriend's parents "dream come true"... Hm :)

Ditto if only I can find the right girl without weird parents :p.

I think you are right about the son-in-laws worst nightmare.
But I do have daughters. 3 actually.
7 year old is my biological girl.
19 year old step daughter, 1st year student.
21 year old step daughter, 3rd year student.

19 and 21, eh? Within the legal limits. ;)

Edit: Any female between 18 and 36 I consider a possible companion.

This was my most unusual father's day yet. It wasn't a celebration, but a commemoration of my fathers. I said goodbye to my father in December last year and today I said goodbye to my father in law.

I loved them both dearly. This father's day was quite somber but we were able to reflect on the fond memories each of us had.

Sorry for your loss as from what I read, both 'fathers' had a profound impact on your life! It's always uplifting to reflect on these and to cherish these memories.

Thanks Fivel. Both were definitely special to me. My own father was always my hero. His wisdom was always invaluable. My father in law was a wonderful man who accepted and welcomed me unconditionally into his family. Indeed I cherish the good memories I have of both.

This was a reminder to me to appreciate the time I have with those who are special to me... especially parents.

Least I know how you feel when losing a brother, father or anyone close :D:cool:

Everyday feels empty when you see things of theirs in the house or anywhere and then you get those recurring dreams about them which feel so real and make you feel sad when you wake up and wish they were still around.

The weird thing is that I have more dreams now about my dad than when he was still with us. I'll take it anyway, as they are special. :)

I find that sometimes I can dream about them everyday of the month and then nothing for a few months which is strange and sometimes they come when I want to see them again unconciously.

All you guys that have lost a father, you have my deepest sympathy. After this weekend's fathers day, and reading some of the posts, I have a new found appreciation for the fact that I still have my dad.
